looking at the roster, we have 15 scholarship OL, and many of them were considered highly ranked out of HS.

I know we have injuries to Tengwall, Fashanu, Wallace and Wormley to an extent. We have primarily seen 3-4 of the same guys playing in their place.

There are many other players, some in their 2nd/3rd year, so should be able to play. We don't seem to be hearing any of these guys, and seem to have a very narrow group of backups we are depending on to dodge the injuries.

Any reason some of these guys are not being called to play?

I would assume because they aren’t very good
Correct, the biggest crap shoot in recruiting is O linemen. Unfortunately you only find out that you missed after you’ve had them on campus for a couple of years.

You can’t loose your job when you recruit a high school OL who has the basic measurables of height and weight…coaches think in two years they can make OL out of them…muscle, cut baby fat, stronger, make him mean…. I can teach him how to use his hands and feet..he will be great in two years etc…

While you can teach foot work, you can’t teach feet. Better off taking a 6’5” HS TE
And letting th grow than a HS OT w/o feet

I believe a comment was made that they didn't want to burn certain redshirts .

what about Dawkins? he has some experience?

GIA was supposed to compete for time.

Believe Dawkins is hurt. Arm in a sling IIRC. Think he played one game, maybe 2, but he's already RS and Scruggs hasn't missed any time. They worked Nourzad as the #2 C some as well. Think those 2 battle for C next year unless Scruggs uses his covid year.

GIA has been passed. He's at best a 7th option at G at this point and I couldn't tell you if he's played or not this year. I don't remember hearing him competing for time, but could have missed it. You might be thinking about the Wormley chatter last year.?

Vega and Nelson are the only ones close I believe.

I saw an article the other day where JF alluded to the fact they were trying not to burn redshirts for some of the OL. Vega was at the top of that list. I think they really like Vega, by all accounts he is a road grader for the running game. Nelson was discussed as well as 1 other one might have been Shelton, but his rs is gone now after discussion with him/family/coaches.

I think Vega and Nelson could be our starting guards next year if we move Tengwall to RT. I think managing the RSs goes along the lines of retaining elder OL as well. For example, if both the young guys are potentially better than Wormley/Nourzad, even if it's a small amount, do you risk them transferring out before spring camp to win out this fall (when you can, and so far have, won out 3 of 3)?

Many misses on the OL, we know the names, no need to call them out. 5 should get the talk, whether it’s they didn’t develop or constantly hurt.

I would take 5 every year whether recruits or portal. You get 2 seasons to be on the 2 deep. It’s a business now days .. sorry it used to be about Dear Ole State. Now it’s about NIL &💰.
