Olympic archery

I was at lunch today and Olympic archery was on. My question is: Why are we not a international power in this. I knew teenagers growing up (rural deer huintin') that could hit bottle caps with an arrow. These gold medal contenders were good - but they were missing their targets as many times as they were hitting.

and tomahawk throwing and scalping if those are events. Oddly, Gena Davis was a big-time US archer who almost made the olympic team.
