If it ends up this way, better opportunity for PSU (MD and Rutgers every year). Can't see BIG making OSU play Mich and PSU every year. Would also be surprised that the Land Grant game would be not protected.

PSU‘s first four games every year, with no bye week:

Game 1: At ucla

Game 2: At um

Game 3: At usc

Game 4: At T™️osu
Ha! What little do you know.

Before Warren exited, his last order of business was to issue a resolution that all Penn State football games would be on the road every week for every year into perpetuity.

I would only protect one rivalry per team - ensuring Penn State plays MD and Rutgers every year for the sake of 'tradition' is garbage.

I don't think he said it was "tradition" He said "designated rivals". And I think it has as much to do with ensuring Rutgers and Maryland get the opportunity to have their stadiums filled with PSU fans who live in proximity, as anything else. If you assume the Land Grant Trophy Game is a traidition......PSU has skipped over MSU in the past in 2011, 2012 and 2013. But, I don't think PSU has skipped over RU and MD since both joined the conference.

PSU has always had OSU as a "designated rival" since entering the Conference in 1993. So, they were going to be on the list.

Keep in mind - this is just one guy's opinion. Until the BI6 actually issues their schedules, it is all just conjecture.

the three team pods are to protect existing rivalries. It doesn’t mean that every three team pod all consider themselves rivals. It doesn’t work if every team isn’t in a three team pod.

If only we had an assistant athletic director for scheduling.

Would love to see Penn State try to get UCLA as a protected rival (with OSU and likely Maryland or Rutgers). It could be a great new rivalry type game.

Speaking of Warren, who is currently running the B1G and how hasn't everything crumbled since he left? 😏

In that vein, don't know if anyone noticed (I sure didn't) that there have apprently been significant changes in AD staff. Lynn Holleran? Gone! Scott Sidwell? Gone! Appears to be 2-3 others from just eyeballing the list of AADS, but I can't recall specific names. Don't recall reading about any changes. Maybe Pat Kraft is the Silent Assassin.

Sandy is available. Well, she’s obviously able, but I don’t know if she’s willing.

They spoke of this a while back in The Den.

No surprise.

No announcement by PSU. Guess Larry the Fish, if he was still working for PSU at the time of their departures, didn't think it would be a good look.

Believe the person who was hired to take Charmelle Green's spot is no longer there, also another AAD who was responsible for community outreach and academic support.

Looks like the Athletic Department is functioning no worse after the excess baggage was jettisoned.

Forget about Rutgers as a protected rivalry. Would rather it be OSU, MD, and UCLA or SoCal.
For USC or UCLA to be added I have a feeling the PSU AD will have to be very proactive. I don’t see the big ten doing it on their own.

I think there will be real issues with USC and UCLA down the road. They are going to have to make sure they get a lot of games with Ohio State, Penn State, Michigan, Michigan St, and Nebraska. Folks in California will not be interested in a schedule full of Purdue, Indiana, Maryland, Rutgers, Minnesota, Northwestern, Illinois, and Iowa.

From the article:

”Five assistant athletic directors — Scott Sidwell (external deputy athletic director), Lynn Holleran (deputy athletic director for administration), Carl Heck (senior associate athletic director for capital projects), Tom McGrath (associate athletic director for business relations), and Michael Cross (assistant athletic director for new business development) — are no longer in the Penn State Athletics staff directory.”

And,

”“Over the last several months, Penn State Athletics’ leadership has reviewed the department’s overall operation, including budget optimization and reorganization of the department’s structure, which has resulted in recent staff changes,” the spokesperson said. “We have no further comment regarding personnel matters.””

I guess Kraft is no Sandy.

We’re screwed. 😞

This is a horrendous idea and bad on so many levels. Maryland and Rutgers are not rivals to PSU. They are reliable, annual beat down candidates that enable PSU to play their entire roster during blow outs.

Scheduling will be dictated by money and TV ratings, meaning the networks will have a huge voice in scheduling. This means great matchups fans want to see. As an example, PSU vs. Ohio State, Michigan, or USC for at least 2 of their games every year. A minimum of 2 money generating, high fan interest games is a must. Currently PSU has Ohio State and Michigan that fits this criteria.

What is Kraft doing? “Budget optimization”? This is a college administration….who does that? We were told Sandy’s endless hiring spree was just bringing PSU’s AD up to date from prior mismanagement. 🙄

Kraft won’t survive this.

Does Sandy still live in State College? Hopefully she can step in and undo what Kraft did.

Kraft didn’t go far enough. He should have sent an email to every assistant AD stating that he needed every AAD not busy at the moment to immediately report to his office for an important meeting. When they were all present he could have fired them en mass.
This accomplishes two things;
1. It clears out dead wood.
2. Reduces congestion at the coffee machine and water dispenser.

I think you’re way off base here. At the meeting everyone will be clamoring for Rutgers as an annual foe. That’s one automatic step toward bowl eligibility.
