One thing Polk and Veazey aren't considering.

In Veazey's blog he points out that the teams we've played so far have a combined 45-29 SEC record, while the teams remaining are below .500. While they do have a point, what they're not considering is that the biggest reason the teams we've played have such a good record is that they've all played the worst team in the league. If you throw out their records against us, they're only 33-26. Still better than the teams remaining on our schedule, but not by nearly as much as they make it look like.

but I also wonder about the magnitude of the losses. I mean, a 16-0 loss might turn into a 5-4 loss against a worse team ,but it's still a loss.</p>

They also fail to mention that we are also losing to OOC teams we have no business losing to, such as Memphis. What is their record again? Hadn't they lost something like 9 in a row prior to beating us?

We aren't likely to finish the season 6-24 as we are now on pace to do, but I can't see us finishing with any more than 8-10 SEC wins either. I think 9-21 is the most likely scenario. That would have us losing 4 series but winning a game in each and winning 1 series 2-1.</p>

As we know, we have not won an SEC title since 1989. We play in a
tough
league, but consider the following.

Since the split to division format in 1992, the following have division
titles in baseball.

LSU (10)
<span class="yshortcuts" id="lw_1208186389_0" style="CURSOR: hand; BORDER-BOTTOM: #0066cc 1px dashed">South Carolina</span>, <span class="yshortcuts" id="lw_1208186389_1" style="CURSOR: hand; BORDER-BOTTOM: #0066cc 1px dashed">Florida</span>, <span class="yshortcuts" id="lw_1208186389_2" style="BACKGROUND: none transparent scroll repeat 0% 0%; CURSOR: hand; BORDER-BOTTOM: #0066cc 1px dashed">Tennessee</span> (4 each) Alabama & Arkansas (3 each)
Georgia (2) Auburn, Mississippi, <span class="yshortcuts" id="lw_1208186389_3" style="CURSOR: hand; BORDER-BOTTOM: #0066cc 1px dashed">Kentucky</span>, & Vandy (1 each)

absent from this list....

MSU (ZERO!)

Is this the kind of baseball tradition Polk hopes to continue
with an assistant from the current staff that knows the MSU way?

Oh by the way, 1,186 watched Starkville's version of the bad news bears
yesterday.

of the current state of our baseball program. Therefore, anyone arguing in favor of maintaining any kind of continuity regarding this program is going in direct opposition to the wishes of the vast majority of this fanbase. The MSU fanbase is sending a very loud message to Greg Byrne that this is not what we expect out of our baseball program and we will speak with our absence. Inside of a year we've gone from setting the Super Regional record for two day attendance to 1,186 showing up to watch a Sunday SEC game against a good opponent.
