See the link below. From the article:

Georgia defensive coordinator Dan Lanning was hired Saturday as Oregon's next football coach, the school announced.

Lanning, who is just 35, has been at Georgia since 2018, when he was hired as a linebackers coach before being promoted to defensive coordinator in 2019. In the three years that he has coached the Bulldogs' defense, it has had two top-10 units, including the best defense in the country this season.

Prior to landing on coach Kirby Smart's staff at Georgia, Lanning made stops at Pittsburgh as a graduate assistant, Arizona State as a recruiting coordinator, Sam Houston as a defensive backs coach and recruiting coordinator and Memphis as a linebackers coach and recruiting coordinator. He was part of Nick Saban's staff at Alabama in 2015 as a graduate assistant.”

And,

"We are so happy for Dan and his family. He and Sauphia have been an important part of our Bulldog family for the last four years, and we thank them for all they did for Georgia Football and the Athens community," Smart said. "Opportunities like this are a testament to a successful program.”

"While he will coach with us for the upcoming College Football Playoff, we will move forward with Glenn Schumann and Will Muschamp as co-defensive coordinators. Dan and I are both looking forward to preparing for the CFP."

Just 35 and has never been a head coach. I wonder how Oregon’s version of us is taking the news. o_O

Nike money and weak PAC 12 sort makes any outrage irrelevant. Oregon will continue to be tops in conference until Riley turns his team around. Then, Oregon will be fighting them for the PAC 12 championship every year.

This one will be interesting. Hard to believe a rich program like Oregon wouldn’t grab a more proven commodity. High risk.
agree that this is very high risk. UGA has a lot of jimmys and joes and when faced with Saban got mastered a bit. That was the moment you needed the X's and O's. not saying he will not be successful, but this is a reach. With the various deep pockets they have, surprised they didn't go somewhere else. Again amazed at some of the teams that nobody seems to look at their guys.

Of course. We got a good DC, while Oregon took a flyer on a young guy who has never been a head coach. F*ck us.

Not the way Oregon rolls. Of their last five head coaches, four, including Crisotbal, have been promotions of assistants already on staff.

What is higher risk than committing to a high- to mid-eight figure buyout if your "proven commodity" doesn't live up to expectations?

Oh if you’re referring to TPG’s deal, I’ve been vocal there. I think it’s a pure BS thing to do when the Pres and AD are on their way out. The BOT should be embarrassed but they’re too arrogant to comprehend the concept.

I would put Josh Gattis above this guy, as well as the Wisconsin DC if you want to go defense.

Not referring to any deal per se. Just wonder what some schools are thinking when they make the financial commitments they do. Not all of them will yield the desired outcomes.

As for PSU's BoT, I've come to the conclusion that their worst work is always ahead of them.

Wait a minute. So Kirby Smart thinks that losing assistant coaches to become HCs elsewhere is "a testament of a successful program"? :ROFLMAO:

The most amazing part of that story is that Will Muschamp is still coaching in the SEC.
