So let me get this straight, Michigan has the Broyles award winner(Josh Gattis) and Ohio State is now getting the runner up to the Broyles award winner in knowles. Boy.......Franklin better give some of that new found salary to getting some big time replacements for Poindexter and Pry.

OSU had a small weakness and they fixed it immediately. Must of sensed Franklin making a bid for Knowles. Kind of like Justin Fields . Our opponents know Franklin is a great evaluator of talent.
Franklin probably needs to disable his flight tracker like Miami.

Yeah right, OSU needed Franklin to tip them off about the most desired DC in the country. What the Broyles award couldn't get through their thicks skulls, Franklin was able to?

Not his qualifications obviously, just intent. So be it.

That's who i was hoping PSU would get. Plan B make that C is probably Mason, or Coach Chaos.
JMO but I don't think Sean Spencer is Plan C. I would rate him higher than Knowles, simply because of his time in the NFL and I would probably rate Mason equal to Knowles.
But I still think the key is someone who is a LB'r coach as well. I know Lorig can do it but I'm not crazy about that choice.
And what is the delay with Poindexter? Did UVA hire him or not?

Ohio State Assistant Coaches salaries (these are from last year):
Ohio State football assistant coach salaries, terms announced (osu.edu)

Penn State, obviously, does not provide itemized coaching salaries for the staff, I get it, but we do know the costs of the two coordinators, and the total combined staff salaries at both universities.

In total, the staff salaries at OSU are about the same as PSU. Penn State paid more for their Offensive (once they hired Yurcich) and Defensive Coordinators, OSU paid a bit more, in total for the other 8 position coaches. Both staffs have significant incentives with regard to bowl game participation, I get it.
Penn State, obviously, paid their head coach, Franklin, more than OSU paid Day. In total, Penn State is, obviously, not at a competitive disadvantage with regard to what they are willing to pay. I don't know where that idea would come from, I don't get it.

Word on the street....OSU is giving an excessive amount of hidden compensation for the coaches.
What possible reason or motivation would they have to "hide" compensation to assistant coaches? If anything, they would want to be known as a program that pays their coaches very handsomely. And, of course, they have to disclose exactly what that compensation is in their Title IX reports anyway.
Sometimes Word-on-the-Street is just something that fell out of the dumpster, and should simply be tossed back in the trash as soon as possible.

Would it make sense to have Terry Smith coach the safties along with the CB and have a stand alone LB coach as well as a stand alone DC?

If you're talking about their defense, that unit was no small weakness. Their defense has made them beatable the last couple of years and Day knew it. Several teams moved the ball - bigtime - against them in 2020 and 2021. There's just too much talent on their defensive side to field a horrible unit like that. But yeah, a huge hire for OSU and it just wasn't PSU and OSU after Knowles - he had a ton of programs after him.

Heck, we pay more for our HC than O$U…think we are getting that value?!

So what happened to their existing DC, Kerry Coombs? I'm not seeing any stories about him being fired.

I was in Dallas last summer during Cowboy camp, and on the news they interviewed Sean Lee about his next step after retirement. Jerry Jones was working to get him on staff - possible LB coach. No experience in coaching. If he is good enough for the Boys, why not PSU?

Coombs isn't their DC anymore. He was replaced by Barnes after 3 or 4 games into the season. Pretty much assumed that Day will replace 2 or 3 assistants when all is said and done. Basically, he's gutting his defensive staff and bringing in new ones

My Buckeye buddy at the gym is ecstatic about this hire.
