When Columbia had the total eclipse in 2017 I remember it being like dusk, but just a different light that you don't typically get.Very cloudy in Austin today but during totality the clouds parted for about 15 seconds, and I could see solar flares in the aura. Pretty cool.
I wouldn't say it was dark as night; maybe dark as 30m before dawn. Streetlights came on, nocturnal birds flew out of trees.
