Future of clay court (and beyond?) tennis - Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz (19) - playing Sebastian Korda (son of former player Petr Korda) right now on Tennis Channel. This kid’s slice work is incredible; really fun to watch.

Ramos-Vilanos really had him on the ropes in the 2nd round…was hoping he’d be worn down against Korda today, but it wasn’t to be.

No doubt, Alcaraz is the next Fed/Rafa/Djoko. I was hoping Thiem would ascend to that position but that doesn't seem to be working out. On the women's side Coco Gauff is having a nice run. Serve is her achilles. Jess Pegula is doing well so far. Currently leading 1 set 0 in her third round match. Go Jess!

A question from someone who pretty much just pays attention to the majors, what is the point of the players seedings/rankings in a tournament when they end up doing some method of a draw to determine the actual matchups?

Constantly see 1 vs. 3 semifinal possibilities, and now I read it would be 1 vs. 5 quarterfinal for this tournament if seeds hold.

Seeding is important for the first couple rounds and for the top 8 or so for a couple more rounds.

If you are seeded, you at least do not have to face another seeded player in the first 2 rounds. Then i the third round, the top 16 do not have to face each other and in 4th, the top 8, etc. One and two do not meet until the finals.

Pegula into the QF!
Pretty monumental task ahead facing Swiatek, though she did finally drop a set today (then promptly turned it around 6-0 and 6-2).

We get an all-American quarter on the other side of the draw with Gauff and Sloane, with the winner having a good shot to get to the final.

Gauff through to the Semis, Alcaraz went down swinging to Zverev, and Rafa is playing Djoke now.

VAMOS RAFA!!!

I bet Sloane Stephens today. It was a bad bet. I thought +150 were good odds against Gauff. It wasn't.

She broke her back at 5-4 and I thought Sloane was going to turn the corner, but Coco broke right back and it was over then. Didn't even need to watch the second set.

Pegula into the QF!

She's playing well. I didn't completely buy into her rise last year, but she's only risen in the rankings more through the first half of this year. Believe I saw she's up to No. 11 now.

You probably watch more tennis than I do. Can she realistically win a major one day?

Absolutely. Women's game much more open than the men's, especially with Williams sidelined for the most part. Lots of women to keep an eye on besides Swiatek too - Fernandez, Gauff, Stephens, Halep, Raducanu, Azarenka, Collins....

If Pegula pulls the upset tomorrow, she’d become the top ranked American.

Offshore right now, I see her at +2609 to win the title. Not a bad price, as if she pulled off the upset tomorrow at +600ish, I’d have her as the favorite to win it all.

Coco probably played the best match I’ve ever seen her play today in moving on to the final…however, Swiatek is on another planet right now.
Yeah Swiatek is hitting really well. Power in every shot. Osaka like. However, Coco is able to stay in matches even when she's not at her best. Love the match up.

Also want to see what Coco and Pegula do as a doubles team.

Yeah, I've been following all day. Nice to see Terry's daughter doing so well! Did anyone else catch the "chipmunk" logo on her tennis skirt earlier?

Swiatek was just too good today...while she doesn't have a dominating serve, she's a threat to break on every return game against everyone in the world right now. Will be interesting to see if she can keep the run going into the grass court season (though it's not the best surface for her game, I did play a future on her to win Wimbledon).
