It’s hard to think of any Hollywood movie prior to the 1960s that could rival Metropolis in this capacity. The only one I can think of is Things to Come and that’s meh.

Maybe it helps The Rick, but I've never seen a single movie mentioned in this thread outside of Rudy, and my context clues tell me that Bob's answer might not have been serious.
Then again, everyone makes fun of me for how few "classic" movies I've actually seen.
I’d add two more Christian Bale movies - Reign of Fire and Equillibrium (Brave New World but with gunfights and martial arts).

At least I can still rest easy knowing that hamburgers are made from ham, and frankfurters are made from guys named Frank. And his furters.
