That’s a big boy
My 2nd heaviest bass and very close to my heaviest. That’s a big boy
It was a private place. It's a drinking water reservoir for our town. But the surrounding landowners own the access. One of them gave me a key to their gate. The place is at least 30 acres, maybe more. Also caught a big flathead catfish, the first cat I've caught there in more than 10 years. I caught the fish in my avatar there as well. What body of water you fishing ?
I grew up fishing Wateree. My family had a place there from '68 until my sister and I sold it after my parents were gone. Some of the very best days of my life were spent there. I fished there for more than 35 years. I never caught a bass over 5 lb. there. I did catch some nice stripers and a 10 lb channel cat, on a piece of hot dog. Those were days before the blue cats were released.Cool . Don't get to fish as much as I'd like . Usually hit Lake Wateree when I do !

My uncle had a place on Singleton Cr. Rd. We spent a good bit of time there too.So did I. Still have a place on Singleton Creek Road . Been in the family a while . Parents passed a few years back and my siblings and I are gonna keep it for a while longer ! Grew up near there before moving to Kentucky for my job . Looking to get back down that way after wife retires !
Where u live in the 4th Commonwealth? My uncle had a place on Singleton Cr. Rd. We spent a good bit of time there too.
I love seabass, grouper and snapper. I almost never eat a bass, especially one over 2 lbs. Just not great eating. I'm sure I've caught the same big fish more than once.Cool! I caught a nice Seabass this morning at the grocery store. Gonna bake it up tonight!
Nice fish !!! What did you catch him on???
A Texas rigged stick worm (Senko style bait) with a 1/8 oz bullet weight. I use 30# braided line on heavy action rod with the drag as tight as it will go. I use superline flipping/pitching hooks for this technique because I've had a big bass straighten out a standard worm hook before. I was casting the worm on top of lilies at the dam and letting it drop off the edge. I don't usually worm fish, but they've been ignoring the jig lately (I caught a 7.93 a month ago on the jig) so I thought I'd show them something different.Nice fish !!! What did you catch him on???
Nice, just got home yesterday from the St. Lawrence River. Caught 175 smallmouth last week and 2 great northerns.
Smallies are on the bucket list. But they're in the Broad River in SC. I'll get around to it some day.Nice, just got home yesterday from the St. Lawrence River. Caught 175 smallmouth last week and 2 great northerns.
It is much to cool up there for me though, I'd rather be in the Everglades.
white super fluke!NICE! What did you catch it on?
I was catching my small mouths on beds using a white superfluke Jr. Nose hook them on a dropshot and you can see them bite it 10 feet down.white super fluke!
i caught these just before the sun came up on the south end of clarks hill, a few weeks post spawn, but the only thing i did was a bullet in the front nose of the fluke, hooked weedless. landed a bunch around that size!I was catching my small mouths on beds using a white superfluke Jr. Nose hook them on a dropshot and you can see them bite it 10 feet down.
That's my favorite crappie lake !I grew up fishing Wateree. My family had a place there from '68 until my sister and I sold it after my parents were gone. Yes, it's a good one for sure. There used to be this tiny cove in Stillhouse Branch that they spawned in. Spring can be a time of howling winds on the lake, but that little spot was completely sheltered. You could walk in if you knew the spot or beach your boat and mop up on them. That tiny cove was closed in by a sandbar last time I was on the lake. I also caught a lot of bass further back in that cove. It was a spot I always expected to get a bite or three. That's my favorite crappie lake !
We collected Christmas trees and sunk them all around our cove. The crappie were excellent there for years.Caught lots of crappie over the years . My Dad and his friends had lots of brushpile scattered throughout the lake . Boy do I miss those days !
I graduated from there in '88. I was born here and I lived near Kershaw most of my life. So we probably do.We had a few around Stillhouse Branch ! Our paths may have crossed back in the day .I graduated from Andrew Jackson in 73 . May know some of the same people .
I'm one of the Estridge's of Flat Creek, not Lancaster. My youngest sister graduated in 85 .We grew up in Heath Springs ! Small world . part of the Hunter clan .
Likewise, my friend. BTW, I'm related to some Hunters, but from Kershaw. It's so intertwined here because it's a small community. We told our daughter if she started liking a boy she should ask us to make sure they aren't a relative.I remember a few of them from the old days and a few from Kershaw as well . Knew lots of people from Flat Creek ! Will keep all this in mind when I read your post from now on . Have a good one and God Bless .
