Any Civil War buffs? My GG Grandfather did three tours. I researched his first 90-day tour to follow in his footsteps. His 8th Regiment PA Volunteer Infantry was made up of many from northeastern and central PA.

Really nice work by you on this.

My GGG grandfather was in the PA 6th Reserves, awarded Medal of Honor for actions at Gettysburg on July 3. I have the 1893 version of the medal, my uncle has the modern updated version.

Thanks!
Very cool that you have that reminder of his service. I wish I had something of his - I don’t even know of a photo that might exist somewhere within the extended family.

Researching our family history will see what we find. I do know a family member signed the Declaration of Independence Josiah Bartlett

My ancestor was in this company out of Mauch Chunk. Died at South Mountain.

"Bucktail Rifles"

42nd Regiment -

COMPANY F

- This company, in the First Pennsylvania "Bucktails" (of the Pennsylvania Reserve Volunteer Corps), was originally intended for the campaign of three months, but when it reached Harrisburg no companies were accepted for a shorter term than three years. It was the first three-years' organization at the State capital, and was mustered into service May 15, 1861. The first action in which the company participated was the skirmish at Falling Waters, early in 1861. The first severe action was the battle of Dranesville, Dec. 20, 1861. Subsequently the company fought in the Seven Days' battle on the Peninsula, in the battles of Bull Run, South Mountain, Antietam, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, and the Wilderness, and all through the long struggle to the front of Petersburg and Richmond in 1864.

I have to dig out the documents I rec'd from the federal archives. Had 2 on my Dad's side. I think one was at the Battle of Bull Run where the union army had to scale a cliff on the side of river to attack which was dumb. I think he got injured and was sent back and not sure if he ever made it back to any other battles. I sort of recall the other mustered in but then the war ended or something. They both were from the Norristown area. None on my mom's side because her ancestors came from Ireland in the 19-teens. More to come later.
