I hate UT more than an other team and losing a recruit to them ticks me off like nothing (though you can't really say we lost Sanders to them, but it's a recruit we went hard after). Not as much of a gut punch since we don't play them the next 2 years anyway, so that helps. Was hoping he'd land at OSU, though, again, just because I hate UT. I recall reading an article a year ago how we were "leading" for both Sanders and Griffin. But that was when we were in the middle of our hot streak last spring/summer.

Looking at our own '25 class, we have three 4* and fifteen 3* with about 3 1/2 months until the early signing day. Most desirable recruits are already committed, so we'll have to pull some big flips to salvage this class.

Get used to hating them. Heupel is a winner. Him and Freeze were among the coaches I was interested in after Muschamp got fired. But, the "fix" was in early in the hiring process.

Both Tennessee and Auburn are working on Top 10 recruiting classes. I doubt they are that much richer NIL-wise than us.

Short of having some big-time flips, this class is toast. Most of the 4* we have offered already committed elsewhere or we are not high on the list. I think last I looked, their might have been two or three 4* we offered who are, at best, warm on us.

To do anything about turning this class around the following needs to happen:
- Minimum 7-win regular season
- Be competitive in all of our games
- At least one signature conference win over Bama or OU (LSU would be a very good win, but not what I would call signature. Going on the road and winning at Bama or OU would be HUGE publicity for us.)
- Beat Clemson
- Beat Kentucky

On3 has us with 6 four star recruits currently. Where did you get the three number from?

Rivals. 247 also has 6. I just happened to be on Rivals earlier when I posted. 3 or 6 doesn't change the math much, though.

There’s a pretty big difference between having 3 fours stars and 6. For us historically 10 four stars is a solid class. That is still somewhat within reach with 6 already committed. Ultimately we will need to do better to make a real move in the conference of course but this class (currently ranked 29 on this site) isn’t too far off from the typical SC class. Definitely a drop off from the no. 16 and 19 classes from the preceding seasons but some drop off would be expected with the 5 win season last year. I agree a bounce back is very important this year to get some momentum going again

I believe it's more constructive to see where we are in recruiting compared to the rest of the SEC. After all, most of our games will be against fellow SEC members.

2021: ranked 14th out of 14 teams
2022: ranked 13th out of 14 teams
2023: ranked 7th out of 14 teams
2024: ranked 10th out of 16 teams
2025: ranked 13th out of 16 teams (as of today)

But don't we have a good many portal guys starting and on the 2 deep? You have to fill in the gaps somehow, we'll see how it works out

Flipped a 4 star linebacker from Alabama yesterday.

Yes they are. They also have a better coaching staff.
Is Clemson also a lot richer NIL-wise than us.? They too are working on a Top 10 recruiting class. If so, what's their secret? They certainly don't have as many alumni as us. Or what they do have, are a bunch of Warren Buffets? Whatever they are doing, we need to copy.

It’s really simple: players want to play for winners.

We’ve had excuses for decades as to why we miss on recruits, blaming bag men or whatever. Fact is, most of the recruits we miss on simply go to better teams.

That's good. That means we can solve our recruiting woes by just winning this season. Then being NIL-poor should not be a handicap, as some claim. I hope Shane has that coaching ability.
