In my neighborhood and surrounding busy streets, golf carts run around like they own the road with total disregard for safety.
And to top it off, they are often loaded with adults and a 6 year old is behind the wheel. What in the world are they thinking?
Have they not read the news on recent fatalities involving golf carts?
Anybody seeing this and have comments/experiences?

All over my neighborhood in Blythewood and usually no adult in sight. I'm not sure what people are thinking. When I was a kid it was dirt bikes, I had one, but if I got caught on the street the bike and a layer of tail was gone!

At the beach here is the rentals. They have over taken everything. On vacation and drinking its a wonder you don't here about deaths more often. People taken them across the waterway onto 31 with a 65mph speed limit.

May be their final vacation!
I would say don't do it on vacation if you don't do it at home - but I think that's the problem - they do the same thing at home.

Yeah, we were down around Ocean Lakes a few weeks back and I was amazed they have paved paths for them, but they were crossing 17 and sitting at the stop light at 544, it will take a tragedy and I'm not sure that will change anything.

That's legal. Although that's a big intersection, but still legal. Barefoot light next to the cemetery is a death trap.

Are personally-owned golf carts on golf courses a common thing in SC like it is here in MT? I'm not talking about golf course communities, where people simply ride from their house to the golf course, but personally-owned carts that people either store at the club or pull to the club on a trailer. I was away from golf for about 15 years before I started playing again here in MT about 3 years ago, so I don't know if it's a MT thing or an indication of how the game changed during those 15 years. But I'm astounded at the number of personally-owned carts out here.

In my neighborhood kids are flying up and down the road on ATVs and dirt bikes. I wish we were just dealing with golf carts!

It won't change anything. They are here to stay, just like dogs in restaurants.

I didn't think you were allowed to use private golf carts on the course. We take our out after hours, but not to play. That weird.

Wow. I've got questions about this incident. From CNN:

A 3-year-old driving a golf cart struck and killed a 7-year-old on Monday afternoon in Fort Myers, Florida, according to a news release from the Florida Highway Patrol.

The 3-year-old was approaching a right curve near a home on private property when the front of the cart hit the 7-year-old who was standing in the front yard, the release said.

The older child was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead, the release said. The 3-year-old wasn’t hurt.

Concerns about minors driving golf carts in Florida recently prompted the passage of a new state law, CNN affiliate WJFX reported. Anyone under the age of 18 will soon need to have a permit or driver’s license to drive a golf cart, the station reported last month.

The bill was signed into law by Gov. Ron DeSantis and goes into effect October 1.

It doesn’t state an age when minors become eligible to start driving golf carts but does state all minors must have a permit or driver’s license to legally drive a golf cart in Florida. Drivers in Florida must be at least 15 and have parental consent to get a permit, WJFX reported.

Across the country, more than 6,500 children are hurt by golf carts every year, according to the American Academy of Pediatrics. Just more than half those injured are children under 12.

3 years old, holy sh*t - can't reach pedals from seat - had to be standing and driving. I'm sure the question, "where were the parents?" doesn't apply and they may have been watching and filming for youtube!

But, in my area I see adults riding on a rear facing seat, no view of oncoming traffic, with a child around 6 yrs old driving. So the parents are there, but still stupid enough to put themselves in a seriously dangerous situation without a thought or care in the world.

He's "ScrabbleKingWard" !
My Dad instilled that in me. He was a Wofford guy - a history guy who savored words and became an educator. He earned his M.Ed. at Carolina.

He retired as a rural school district superintendent in the Pee Dee area of the state. He instilled other more important things as well regarding ethics, morals, church, and the treatment of others.

My brothers and I were blessed. God rest him.

Awesome! My dad went to Wofford for two years and then finished his degree at Cornell. He met my Mom in Spartanburg while she was at Converse. Blessed to have great parents!

When I was a kid it was mini-bikes. Usually under 5HP.
Cops kept bolt cutters with them and would cut your chain if they caught you on the street. Good times

Color me suprised. thought having a driver's license was the standard.

I grew up in the thriving metropolis of Abbeville, SC pop. 5500, we terrorized the neighborhoods with one mini bike (me), a go cart and a small honda mini bike......all had loud straight pipe "mufflers" that would backfire alot......good times indeed. Now as payback for me bothering the good folks that were great neighbors, I live in my old neighborhood that has gone down hill, now a kid across the street rides his mini bike at all hours getting on my last nerve.

In my area it's now fat tire electric bike mania. All the privileged kids have them, and they even come in 2 seaters!
