It’s been about 20 years since I’ve been. How does the Pack feel about this event for a young grade school family?

ETA.. my drive time to Jackson is about 4 hours

I haven’t been in probably 12 years or so, but I can tell you my little boy (6) would love it. My 9 year old girl probably wouldn’t, as I’m sure the roping and wrestling events would worry her. I looked at going this year the day Zach Top is performing, and was very surprised at how expensive it has gotten.

Your kids will have a blast. Take them and they do a really good job of making it secure.

It’s fun. Definitely something to do that I bet your kids will enjoy. I have an 11 year old and 5 year old. Both love going. It’s not cheap though.

Doesn't the state put on the Dixie national? Not the city. I do get it, though. You said "metro"
Yeah they do. Right I was just talking on general.

I don’t know anything the actual city government does well. St Paddy Parade maybe? But I don’t even think that’s the city itself

I let a neighbor prod me into going once, not my thing. The kids would probably enjoy it though. I enjoyed making fun of all of the urban cowboys in their boots with big belt buckles and hats. "All hat and no cattle" as they call them in TX.

Great family outing. I'd break up the drive by spending the night.
We’d definitely stay the night. Lived in Jackson for a short time about 20 years ago, and I’m not sure what’s changed since then. Hotels will be the next thing on the list. I don’t care in particular about which part of the metro so long as it’s SAFE and near decent restaurants.

Good time with mostly good people. It’s not the same without world famous cowboy clown Lecile Harris though.

There is a Hyatt place on the frontage road in Ridgeland. It’s at the renaissance mall right next to the Cspire headquarters building. That’s probably where I would stay if I were coming with family. From that hotel, you could walk to 5 guys burgers or Panera bread… or more upscale a places koestler prime, caet. 2 great local places that are nice and kid friendly local 463 and aplos also within walking distance of that hotel. If you stay there and like Mediterranean food, I’d highly recommend Aplos. There is also a movie theater and tons of shopping within walking distance. Overall, about the best area the Jackson metro has to offer.

Highly recommend Aplos. Awesome restaurant and it is owned by a bulldog.

Yep this is what I would do.

One funny thing about Rankin County, it is remarkably light on hotels. There’s a cluster around Dogwood and then 1-2 in Pearl. I’m talking decent brands here, not roach motels.

ETA: if you aren’t familiar with modern day Jackhole, definitely don’t try to get a hotel inside city limits. You can mess up quickly if you go somewhere you thought was safe 20 years ago. Just drive down to the Coliseum each day. Am I over exaggerating? Maybe….but just no need to chance it.

Ridgeland/Madison. For Ridgeland get past County Line. Embassy Suites and AC are good. The Sheraton at the Refuge in Flowood is also nice. Has a small lazy river for the kids but I don’t think it’s heated.

Try to go on the nights they have bull riding. Also agree on hotels in Ridgeland and Madison. The coliseum grounds are safe. Top golf in Ridgeland is open and fun for the family.
