at least here in America, that every other commercial on TV or Radio is about betting.
I was with some students from Malvern Prep last Sunday. I asked them if they or their friends gamble, they started to laugh and said half of their friends are "degenerate gamblers". Their words not mine.

Doesn't concern me...though I might be biased since it pays the bills. Alcohol, unhealthy foods, smoking...you could argue that they are all "over-promoted" (or have been at one time). In the end, some can do it responsibly and enjoy it...others won't. But it's much better when done legally, rather than being in the shadows.

The dumming down of the masses (culture, literacy, courage, responsibilities, honesty) - RUNNETH AMUCK !

TV shows want 'wierd' - movies want graffic horror and CGI - average person wants as many excuses as possible - YET - there is a lot of good in the world...... just look at us !

Before online gambling, degenerate gamblers would have to throw on their finest sweats, load up on Marlboro reds and go in person to squander away whatever disposable income they had. Kinda like how conspiracy theorists were the crazy folks yelling in the town square, and didn't have a community of online freaks to support their lunacy. Now, you can gamble away your life's fortune while taking a dump in the comfort of your own home.

I’ll address this from a different angle. I feel like there are few pockets I can hang with where my not thinking in gambling terms doesn’t make me an outcast. People that can only see a team’s performance in terms of the spread (showing my lack of interest in gambling with that term, I suppose) just kind of ruins the conversations for me.

My best buddy, and friend of 55 years, got a payout from his father-in-law/former boss a few years back when the boss closed some stores they managed. All signs point to him gambling away a couple hundred thousand from that, causing his wife to kick him out and divorce him. She and his kids will likely inherit on the order of $10MM someday, while he may never own another house and retire comfortably. At least his kids still love him.

Please remember that a lot of people visit this board to avoid thinking of politics. I’ve never seen anyone change their mind over a post, so what’s the point. People need to vent, sure, but there are a thousand ways to vent that don’t involve posting here.

Thank you, Jim...
Simple rule. Why people can't follow it is beyond me.

And yet we still don't have enough money.

IMO the politicians are hypocrites. They oppose things like marijuana, cigarettes, and gambling because they're bad for you. But their opposition goes away once they realize they can make money from it.

A high school friend got a full scholarship to a prestigous university in a STEM field. By his junior year, he had stopped going to classes, played cards almost non-stop, rang up huge debts, flunked out and never returned to college. He was intelligent (about everything except gambling) and managed to get jobs in tech fields that didn't require that precious degree and eventually became president of a company.

Just like drugs and alcohol, overuse and abuse can lead you down a dark path, but you can recover and lead a successful life.

My daughter told me that a LOT of high school boys are betting online. That to me is a concern.
I guess to bet online you have to have it to bet. Better than not having it and having Vito chase you down Tuesday morning after you tried to win back your losses on Monday night and getting twice a far in the hole.

You can bet on many things in the UK (that's United Kingdom, not Univ of Kentucky). I think they recently had a scandle where politicians were betting on themselves.
