Wife is looking for father's day ideas. Been thinking of getting a new drill. I have an old 12V Dewalt. It works fine for the most part, but the batteries don't hold much of a charge any longer. Would like something with a little more oomph to it as well. Suggestions?

Anyone use Ryobi brand?

Is brush vs brushless a big deal for the non-professional?

Love my 20V Dewalt. I got a fathers day set a few years back. It was a drill, hammer driver, and circular saw. I'd say for normal use you won't really notice a difference in brushless. You get more torque and speed with brushless, but unless you're using it all the time I don't think it's worth it. If I were in construction I'd definitely use brushless though.

I've used DeWalt cordless and corded tools for years and have not been disappointed. Milwaukee is another good brand. Check out the sales. Both brands can be purchased for a fair price. Look at Slickdeals.

I have a set of Ryobi stuff - impact, drill, sawzall, multi tool, brad nailer, and skillsaw. I also have a Rigid drill and impact. I really like both, and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend either. Now, to qualify, I’m not a professional or contractor. But I am a decently proficient DIY’er. I can confidently say these can be expected to perform well for and hold up to DIY use.

I got a Milwaukee M12 drill / impact drill combo kit seven years ago. They both work great, nice feel, hold a charge, I'm a fan.

CVS sometimes runs a sale on Trojans. I wouldn't suggest looking in truck stop restrooms.

Several years ago I got a great deal on a Makita brushless with 2 batteries, I just use it around the house and I have no complaints.
To be honest you can't really go wrong with any of big name products, it's just a matter of what you intend to use it for.

Yeah, all of the major manufacturers, heck, even the Walmart brand stuff, is pretty good for the average homeowner. I think it really just comes down to which one has the best sale deal at a given time. I've had my 20-volt DeWalt drill for about 6 or 7 years now and it has performed flawlessly in what I would call heavier-than-typical use on a couple of farmettes, to include thousands of feet of wood fencing, a couple of decks, and a couple of barn roofs, and countless paddle-bit drilling through 6X6 posts. The little built in light is very handy for my aging eyes, but I suppose that is pretty standard now for all brands. As a homeowner, I wouldn't hesitate to buy any of them.

Been in construction my whole life. Used many different battery powered tools, go with Milwaukee. In my opinion by far the best. Stronger and better battery life. May be a little more but worth the difference.

Last question, Not really, but I prefer brushless.

Depends. Do you seriously use your drill daily? If so, Milwaukee is one of the best. If not, then Dewalt is good. Steer away from Porter Cable and Ryobi. They're functional but seem to lack in the durability department.
