I’m a relative newbie to F1. Maybe 5 years. The more I watch, the more I believe the driver takes a back seat to the performance of the car. Driver is no good without the right car.
My impression (and I'm no expert) is that a great driver might keep a lesser car in the hunt, but that you can't win without a top tier car.
Just ok. Today showed they are 3rd/4th best team to start season.
MB will get better as season goes, but they will have to do a major redesign for 2024.
Tom Brady was pretty good too . George Russell is the future of Mercedes .

They improved it over the course of last year . It’s even better this year . But they moght finish anywhere from 2nd to 4th in the constructors . Red Bull seems to have the cars to beat but still a lot of races ahead .
He is still the better driver, but George has a lot more years ahead, whereas Lewis probably 5 more at most.
I agree the gap is closing and will switch at some point . That’s why I said Russell is the future .
The team / car has been as important, sometimes more, for 50+ yrs…. Many many examples… IMHO ( I’m not alone) Mario Andretti never wins a world drivers championship we’re it not for Colin Chapman’s pioneering Lotus 79 , which with ground effects, had no peer at the time
What does a major redesign entail? Again, I'm a novice to the sport so I apologize in advance if this is common sense.

At my kids’ school charity auction the UAE Ambassador donated a ridiculous F1 package that included tickets to the race in Abu Dhabi along with invites to private parties and other VIP events. It went for $72,000.00. And no, I did not win

.Many things. Things we cannot see like the underneath of the car, one of the most visible parts (the general look of the car such as sidepod design), and other chassis points. These cars are so high tech, the list is long. If you look for a phot of the 2023 Red Bull and the Mercedes, you can see the side designs are quite different.
