Been there, seen that 50 yrs ago....last 25 yrs, I'll let the computers handle all of the "What If" scenarios for a competent design. Of course, it still takes many yrs of hands on experience to determine if the computer analysis is reasonable. The same is true for the structural projects.

Sorry, my post isn't what I'd call fun, but this topic got me thinking about my favorite math book, which was Calculus by Stanley Grossman 1977. I remember, like it was yesterday, reading the preface and smiling just knowing it was going to be a great book/class, and it was.
Paraphrasing Grossman: I tried to include all the algebraic steps required to complete the examples. I remember as a student being infuriated by the statement "it now easily follows that..." when it was not at all easy for me.
