This trip to Stowe was to celebrate our 20th anniversary. The dates were 1/12 - 1/16. We stayed at the Timberholm Inn and it was perfect. The owners are very knowledgeable and fun to hang out with. I posted a review.

Tuesday, Jan 11th: Left PA after work and spent the night outside Albany. This only left us a couple hours to Burlington on Wednesday morning.

Wednesday, Jan 12th: On the way to Stowe we stopped in Burlington to check out some of the breweries. We hit Zero Gravity, Burlington Beer Co., Switchback and Foam. My favorite beer this day was the Octane Cat IPA from Switchback. Bought take out from each place to take home. In hindsight, we should have visited the teddy bear factory too.

Checked into the Timberholm around 4pm. I highly recommend The Aspen room. Nice, roomy and more private than some of the other rooms. For our anniversary dinner we chose Michael's On The Hill down in Waterbury. The food was excellent. I had the pork shank and she had the beef tenderloin. I have pics of these dishes in the photos.

Thursday, Jan 13th: Today I went skiing and my wife went to the Topnotch Spa for their signature 80 minute message. She loved it! Skiing was very enjoyable, the mountain wasn't crowded and temps were in the 20's. Conditions were good, not great only because of some icy spots. The top was very foggy, but certainly manageable. It was well worth the $114 lift ticket and $49 rental at Pinnacle Ski & Sports. For lunch I went to the lodge below the Front Runner chair. The chicken ranch sandwich wasn't bad, decent tap selection at the bar.

Tonight's dinner was at Harrison's. I can see why reservations are recommended, it's a small place. This was another solid meal. I had the braised short rib and she had the chicken piccata. Everything was spot on. On the way back to the Timberholm, we stopped at Doc Ponds for a nightcap and the place was packed.

Friday, Jan 14th: The Timberholm offers a gourmet breakfast each morning and they never disappoint. We had something different each morning including homemade waffles, quiche, oatmeal pancakes, fresh fruit, home fries and outstanding coffee! I shared some food pics.

We still haven't seen the top of Mt. Mansfield as of Friday. After breakfast we went over to Wiessner Woods which has a lot of nice walking trails through the woods. Must be popular because the parking lot filled up fast. Beautiful walk in the snow on a calm morning. I posted 3 pics from WW.

After our walk we went to town and parked in the lot behind the church. Checked out a couple shops and then went to the ski museum. We liked this place. It's small, but has lots of good memorabilia, equipment over the years, and all the old lifts.

After getting in the car, we headed north to Morrisville to visit Rock Art and Lost Nation Breweries. Art Rock had lots of paintings and other stuff from local artists. It was fun walking around and seeing the different stuff. My favorite beer was the Limited Access DIPA. Next we hit Lost Nation. We were hungry at this point and were happy to see LN served food. We each got the soup of the day (vegetable tortilla) and the hummus with picked veggies (pics in the brewery photos). The quality of food impressed me, very good. Wasn't expecting much, but they delivered! I forgot about the Ten Bends Brewery up in Hyde Park, but did find some TB takeout in Stowe.

Next up was an hour of bowling at Stowe Bowl. This is a fun place, not your typical bowling ally. It wasn't very crowded, although it looked booked on their online reservation site. Nice bar area and the two of us rolled 3 games in an hour. Dinner was next door at Idletyme Brewing. The DIPA was good. Our sandwiches were very good, pastrami Rueben and the pub burger.

Saturday, Jan 15th: The good news, we finally got to see the top of Mt Mansfield. The bad, morning low was -15. The high on Saturday was -3. It's safe to say we limited our outdoor activity. After another great breakfast, we took a ride to the mountain to actually see all of it. Felt bad for those trying to ski, the gondola was shut down.

We took a ride south down Rt. 100 to see a few things. First stop was Lawson's Brewery in Waitsfield. I was hoping for a tasting room, but it was table seating only and a 30-minute wait. No problem, we got beer takeout instead. Next, went to Sugarbush, Mt Ellen and Mad River Glen just to see it. Over my many years of skiing in Vermont, these 3 places have always eluded me. All look very worthy, but were empty on this Saturday. Bitter cold and high winds are to blame. As I said with Stowe, many lifts were not even open.

We rolled back into Stowe around 3 and went to The Bench for a late lunch. This place was fantastic! To finally get a glass of Hill Farmstead pale ale on tap was clutch. The pulled pork sandwich was delicious. After chilling back at Timberholm for a bit, we headed out to Rimrock's to watch the end of Raiders-Bengals and Pats-Bills. Lots of Pats fans, good place to watch a game. At 9:30 we called Piecasso and got a pizza to go. Solid pie. Took it back to Timberholm, met up with some guests and had a beer and a slice for a nightcap.

Sunday, Jan 16th: Departure day. This morning the temp hit -20 at the Stowe Airport. Happy the car started right up. Good ride down the Green Mountains on a clear day. If we had time, would have stopped in Manchester. Next time. Ride home was 6:45, not that bad except I had to listen to the Eagles get crushed by the Bucs for half the trip.

We will be back…….

Very cool. Vermont is just awesome everywhere! They have some backwoods general stores that are really nice to visit. One of the best places is the border between VT and NH at Hanover where Dartmouth is - just beautiful!
