my question is. My Flight leaves on Friday, we have to over night in Charlotte and then catch the flight Saturday AM out of Charlotte to Grand Cayman ( I know sucks for me) My question is, will have to pick up my checked bags in Charlette Friday, and then recheck them Saturday am, or will they go thru to Cayman without me touching them again? First time we've had to do it this way, not our choice. In the past we could do it all in one day, AA 'improved' their flight schedule so we cant make the Charlotte connection on Saturday.

My experience is that they will check bags through to destination (even with the overnight layover). Assume it's all the same itinerary with AA as your carrier. We had a similar situation a few years back going to Bermuda (probably more than a few years ago now that I think about it).

Starting at the end the US usually requires all in-coming international flights to re-check bags onto your domestic carrier after you've gone through customs. Leaving the US you should be able to check through to GC and go through customs there.

If you don’t want to leave airport at Charlotte, see if they have any of the MinuteSuites available overnight.

They are not fancy, however it saves taking Uber/Lyft to a hotel, paying for a hotel, and then having to get an Uber/Lyft back.

We did it back in Nov when we were in a similar situation as you. We only did large carry on bags so do not know the answer to your question.
