across the street from the huge Russian Embassy compound.
Brought me back to thinking about the FX TV series, The Americans, with Kerri Russell from like ‘13 to ‘18.
Set in the 1980’s Cold War and in DC.
So authentic with their props and sets from that era.
Damn good series!

I always stay at The Jefferson in DC. About 4 blocks north of the White House. Great service and convenient to where I need to go

I was in Waterloo Iowa a few weeks ago and stayed in a Courtyard that was the original John Deere tractor factory. Very cool hotel. JD museum was next door and you could see a lot of the buildings architecture in some of the old factory photos.

I stayed at the Starkville Regal Inn once before they got uppity and changed it to the Red Roof. Great view of 182, Great dining and vibrant night life just next door. Moderate walk to the Cotton District, which is just another moderate walk to the stadium. Highly recommend.

ETA - my sarcasm is not a knock on Dave's. It's a Starkville institution. So was the Regal Inn, for that matter.

The last two times I stayed up there, back in the 2000s, we stayed with one of my wife's relatives. She was pretty high up in the Navy Department's legal division as a civilian before she retired. She was pioneer female litigator in DC. She lived in the same neighborhood as Colon Powell. She drove us by his place, his garage was open.....a hell of a vintage sports car collection was visible from the street. Her place ,bought and built in the early 60s when the neighborhood was WAY out of town, backed up to this place...

We got to meet the owner's wife and walk the immediate grounds. We were invited in, but declined. THAT I really regret. The relative died a while back, given what the neighborhood was going through at the time, I'm sure the kids got top dollar for the place when they sold it. The relative had some great stories about McLean back in the day. It's just down the road from the CIA Headquarters. She took us to a meat and three place for lunch, she said it used to be spook central for clandestine meetings.

Did you stay at the Glover Park Hotel? I was there a couple weeks ago. I have to travel to DC a few times per year for work and like staying there because of the full gym in the basement
