Maybe it was mentioned in the game and I missed it. FDU only got into the NCAAT because Merrimack College is only in their 4th year as D-I and so not eligible for any tournaments. Merrimack won the regular season and beat FDU in the conference championship game. I was aware of the rule but not that it’s how FDU got in. Could have been deprived one of the great upsets in college basketball!
