Seems the way people behave today repels that ?

PS. I still believe it should be.

Shalom
I agree Mr. Potter. My goal is to live my life as a gentleman, in the best sense of that word. There are times that I fall short, but I never lose sight of the goal. From what I can glean from your postings here, I believe you are similarly inclined.

“Being male is a matter of birth. Being a man is a matter of age. But being a gentleman is a matter of choice.” – Vin Diesel

"There is no such thing as being a gentleman at important moments; it is at unimportant moments that a man is a gentleman. At important moments he ought to be something better. "

I’ve never heard that quote from Vin Diesel. Very astute.

I want to be remembered when I die. And when I look back at my life, the people I remember the most vividly are either incredibly nice, respectful and kind or complete a-holes. I’d rather be the former.

That's just totally uncalled for. What a scumbag that person was with the sign. There's a difference between being a fan, and being fan scumbag. That was wayyyyyyyy too low.
A similar thing happened to a Steve Kerr when he was a college player. I believe his father was KIA in Vietnam.

Douchebags are nothing new.

psuro:

Steve Kerr's Father was assassinated by jihadists while he was president at the American University of Beirut in 1984.

That’s a great quote by Vin Diesel, but I’ve known many, many men whom others would refer to as gentlemen that were outright scumbags in actuality. Honestly, I am more concerned with people who are real and have solid ethical/moral footing than somebody who appears to be a gentleman.
And I get that the quote is not referring to people who are pretending to be gentlemen but who are truly gentlemen. I’ve just seen many “gentlemen” reveal themselves to be much less than that once you get past the facade.

Agree. If you are an a-hole be honest about it. I know I am. And I deserve the same in return. ;)

As generations have become more and more entitled, the Golden Rule seems to be fading into oblivion. It just seems like such a simple notion to keep civility in our consciousness, yet people constantly appear to be treating others with even more and more malice.

At work I do my best to treat others with civility and respect. Even when debatable issues get heated, I always do my absolute best to take the high road. Those who choose to make things personal while using borderline language do not last long. It’s a fine line guys and not always easy.

I think 'we' as a society are a long way from understanding decorum, primarily because we have more information about everything. We think we know everything and anyone before we even put in the work to learn more. However, we still have a chance to be respectful. All we have do is understand the concept of The Other. That requires a couple of basic behaviors including when confronted with a disagreement, take a breath and simply say 'I am hearing you. Can you tell me why you feel the way you do?" That's it. Defuse. The Other is a concept taught in education classes that attempts to identify the feelings and opinions of others first, then agreeing or disagreeing. In most circumstances, people are closer on their opinions than they think but it takes a little work to find out.
