Going to be driving into Manhattan Wednesday evening. I usually come in from I80 and to the Lincoln Tunnel via Routes 46 and 3 East to 495. Have there been any issues either on 80 or detours from 46 or 3? Noticed that MapQuest, etc. are only recommending using the PA turnpike route, which I hate. They usually provide alternative routes. Any information from you New Jersey or NYC guys would be appreciated. Thanks.

What time are you coming in?

Around 7:30 PM
Sorry, should have been clearer. Is that the time you plan to hit the tunnel or be at your destination? If the latter, where is it (don't need to be more specific than the part of Manhattan)?

I usually hit the tunnel around that time. It generally takes another 20 minutes or so from the tunnel to get up to West 54th where we stay.

Can't see anything in the way of scheduled construction to avoid.

Sounds like you've done this before, so you may already be aware of my one caution. The 495 approach to the tunnel can get really backed up at that time with people going into Manhattan for the night. If you've been there at that time you know what I mean. If not, add 45 minutes to an hour to your travel time if you have to be somewhere at an appointed hour.

Yep, have done it many times. Not that 7:00 is a picnic, but the worst time from my experience is getting there around 5:30 on weekdays when only one tunnel is inbound. It is a nightmare, particularly after having been in the car for 6+ hours. Appreciate the construction information. Thanks

Drove in from EWR airport to mid-town on Christmas night, and it took about 50 mins. The only traffic was entering the Lincoln Tunnel area. Great trip, though.

I avoid Manhattan like the plague. Been there too many times and got stuck in too many traffic jams. I know this is of no help to your travel plans. In my experience, you can get to the tunnels or bridges without too much traffic but getting thru/over them is the issue. I started driving in late in the evening like you do or early in the AM like 5:00 AM. Sometimes, I would just park on the NJ side and take the ferry across then get an uber/cab to get where I need to go. Not too much fun in Feb though, more enjoyable ferry rides in the warmer weather.

Tough to drive in, but love Manhattan once we're there.

Ha! Blade runs a shuttle service from the city to the helipad on Meadow Ln in Southampton. I was privileged to have made the trip a couple times and was grateful someone else was picking up the tab. ;)

Unless I really need a car while in Manhattan I park at the Secaucus train station and take the train to Penn Station. I also sometimes park at the Embassy Suites and take a bus to the Port Authority. The bus stop on the opposite side of the street from the Embassy is the inbound.
