Guys, I have an older radio shack disk type antenna that I haven't used in years because I've been on cable until recently switching to Direct TV streaming. I am getting NBC and FOX fine, but I am not getting any signal from ABC or CBS (which is the one Direct TV is having issues with). The antennas are located in the general vicinity of each other so you would think I would get basically the same reception from all the antennas in that area, any ideas? It's showing I'm 10 miles away with the angle 123-129 degrees from the Blythewood area. Anyone had these type of issues before and/or have any suggestions other than changing streaming services. Also, has anyone had any luck with an indoor antenna, and if so which one would you recommend. Thanks

It’s possible that antenna is omi directional and at ten miles it might not work. You might try one of those flat antennas. They require a little trial and error to find a sweet spot but at 10 miles it might work.

I dont see how changing your streaming service will help get more OTA channels. Not sure I understand what you mean by that. I have several indoor antennas for several TVs. One works about as good as the other. One looks kinda like an album cover. Another looks like a 14 inch slim tower. I too am about 10 miles from the towers. Not in your area of the state though. Im getting all the channels I should (about 29) and I don't even have the things near a window. Picture clarity is better than any of my streaming services. Side note is I use them on Roku TCL TVs. They will allow you to run the antenna through a USB memory stick which will allow you to pause and rewind OTA signals. Pretty cool.

Direct tv is in a dispute with cbs, if i changed to youtube tv i would get all the local channels! I don’t think these disputes are going to end, i’ve heard other parts of the country having issues with nbc, so might as well head off any issues now instead of hopping from one service to the other!

What I found is that the big networks CBS, ABC and NBC and maybe a few others, (where I live anyway) come with three or four affiliated channels. I kinda think of them as bonus channels that probably won't be offered by streaming services. The "bonus channels" are clearly not offered by my main streaming service Hulu.

Not in Columbia, but I've had good luck with Mohu leaf-type antennas on the inexpensive side and Clearstream 2-Max on the slightly expensive side. If you haven't yet, try moving your current antenna around (near a window if possible) and rescan each time to try to find a sweet spot.

The only indoor OTA antennas that will pick up decent amount of HD channels are fractal in design (they would be a flat, thin, pad that can be mounted on an outdoor-facing window with tape or clips). I made one from aluminum foil using a template and a plastic sheet report cover, but after many months of being exposed to the blazing heat of a single paned window, the plastic became brittle and all but disintegrated. A commercial product like this one should fare better: https://a.co/d/d2V7RGx

My homemade antenna didn't need amplification, but maybe that's because it was mounted on a window.
