OT: Pro baseball trivia, have you heard of a homerun cycle?

If I've researched it correctly, only 18 players in the history of MLB have hit 4 HRs in a single game. Hence, the likelihood of a home run cycle taking place in MLB is quite low.

My memory of Schmidt’s four-HR game is that the winds were very favorable at Wrigley Field that day. Luzinski was injured and couldn’t play that day and I remember reading that he was pissed.

10 freaking RBIs…. That in and of itself has only been accomplished 15 times in MLB history.

that was a wild game, very early in the season. Collectively, Phightin's fans had a feeling that the Phils would be special that year, and that early game didn't do anything to dampen those sentiments.

I was attending Ogontz Campus in those days and working at Sears Auto just up the street. I happened to walk through the tv/waiting room as he hit his first. I "recall" (it's been a few years) that I saw the second and third, somehow (but maybe not). What I remember was the fourth. Everyone in the shop and all the customers and sales people were in the TV room for that last at bat. The place exploded when he hit it.

IIRC. clemente had a walk off inside the park grand slam. I doubt we will ever see that again.

Turns out a "natural cycle" is also quite rare -- single, double, triple, home run, in that order -- only 15 times in baseball history. The most recent natural cycle was in 2006, by Gary Mathews Jr. Then there's the "reverse natural cycle" which has only happened 10 times in baseball history, the most recent being Rajai Davis in 2016.

hmm, so far it's the only one in MLB history. I'd hesitate to say we'll never see such an event again, as ITPGSHRs do happen occasionally, so if the conditions necessary (loaded bases and trailing by 3 runs in the bottom of the 9th or bottom of extra innings) exist, it could happen.

An interesting article about ITPGSHRs in MLB:

Well, it has never happened in the majors, it just happened for the second time in the minors.

He wasn't even good enough to an inside the park HR?
