Way OT, but definitely in the geographic sweet spot of this Board's membership -- wife and I enjoy waterfront hotel rooms with boardwalks and lively towns, but in the winter! We like these venues for off-season vacations, when it's less crowded, but the towns are still alive with restaurants and watering holes and shopping and such.

Last year, Rehoboth Beach was a very nice venue. This year, I'm wondering if Asbury Park or someplace else might offer us a nice long weekend of enjoying the water view, walking the boardwalk, and eating some good seafood. Throwing it out there for the AKB to offer thoughts.

Asbury is an option, and since it's in the heart of the Monmouth County there should be a number of options in or near AP.

Other options in NJ could be Ocean City,

Frankly, I would steer you to Ocean City, MD head down or to Chincoteague in Va.

Lived in Lower Slower for several years but that was back in the 90’s and the Rehoboth area was a ghost town then in December. I suspect it is not that way now, but should still be a lot less busy than summer.

OCNJ is pretty closed up in winter. A good alternative is Cape May. The B&Bs stay open and there are a number of very good high end restaurants available including the Peter Shields Inn which would be a great place to stay. There is shopping, a few pubs, the lighthouse, Cape May point to collect “diamonds” on the beach, some nearby wineries, and of course all the Victorian architecture. It’s a national treasure.

we have a place about 10 mins from Oak Island, NC. In my experience, the NC islands (ocean isle, oak island, Holden beach, outer banks…. etc) are normally pretty dead in the winter. Some shops even close for the offseason. Granted we’re close to Shallotte, but there’s not much there. If you want more to do but still enjoying the smaller crowds, stay closer to the bigger cities and towns. Carolina Beach-Topsail Beach for their proximity to Wilmington. If you want to do the outer banks, do the northern outer banks from Nags Head through Duck. Pretty stable infrastructure up there as well.

Now….. if you want quiet, no crowds, and 1 maybe 2 places to eat and grocery, the southern beaches and the outer banks S of Nags Head are the way to go.

@Roswelllion has been in the area longer than we have and might could have better advice

I was at a wedding in Wildwood last weekend. It was dead. I’m guessing it would be that way in December as well

Atlantic City has the casinos. Might be more going on there that time of year.

I second Cape May. We like to go off season and last year went in early October and our hotel had a heated jacuzzi and pool that was still open.

Looks like its a Midnighter-like poll of Asbury Park - Cape May - Rehoboth Beach. Combination of restaurants and nightlife, plus beach vista, are the determining factors.

Atlantic City is a different animal - a mangy one at that. Unless you’re going to a casino to gamble or to one of their restaurants or shows, I’d stay clear. Just my opinion as I’m not a gambler and prefer a quieter and prettier shore environment.

Being a resident of eastern Monmouth County in NJ, my recommendation would be the new hotel in Long Branch, The Wave.
It is situated at Pier Village which has a variety of shops, restaurants and clubs; and a 2-mile long stretch of new boardwalk (replaced after Sandy) to stretch your legs in the ocean air. Asbury is just 10 minutes up the road if you want to visit the Stone Pony or walk the boardwalk or town.

Went to Ocean Isle Beach in NC back when PSU was in the Pinstripe Bowl. Not a whole lot in Ocean Isle, nice beaches but no boardwalk. You can drive down to Myrtle for anything you need there.

Inlaws live in Rehoboth, agree it is nice in teh winter, you could go a little farther down the coast to Dewey if you didnt last time

And so we embrace again behind the dunes.
This beach is so cold on a winter afternoon,
But holding you close is like holding the summer sun,
All warm from the memory of days to come.
