Well, thanks for keeping a careful eye out for important details like this.Was thinking that generation he likely served in WW2. I checked and indeed he did. It's sad his obit doesn't mention that.
During World War II, he served in the United States Navy where he was shipmates with Tony Curtis on the submarine tender USS Proteus (AS-19).[4]
