Though a proud native South Carolinian, I haven't lived in SC since 2012 :( as life has carried me to Japan and now the DC area šŸ¤® I gotta say, one of the things that annoyed me when I lived there, particularly when I was in Charleston, was meeting Yankees who moved to SC for lower taxes etc but then complained that SC wasn't like they place they moved from. All those Yankees want to move to southern states and then end up trying to turn it into the place they ran away from. I always just said "If you miss it that much, just go back."

I do not think this is a smart move by South Carolina although I do see the results of the huge population influx. We have proven to be a state popular with some of the biggest industries which create jobs. We obviously don't have the necessary qualified workers to fill 1,000s of jobs the same as we did decades ago. This is a plan with good intentions that will end up with negative publicity from competing cities and states.

I think the headline makes it sound a lot more controversial than it is. A $250 additional fee for transferring vehicle registration from another state to SC is not really all that punitive and is not even directed at Yankees. As the article points out, the majority of the transplants over the last decade have been from NC and GA

You saying they can't afford $250?

There needs to be some sort of stipulation for people who were born and raised in South Carolina, and have been gone for a while and moved back. I live in South Carolina, the majority of my life, but Iā€™ve been in Tennessee past 20+ years. Also, still own a house there so agree with the yankee tax but may move back one day.

Can't do this.

Makes entirely too much sense.

When I left SC a couple of years ago my neighbors on each side were from NC and GA. Very few others from neighboring states. Mostly
mid-west and north east. I never saw anyone else with a USC flag. :(

BTW, my NC neighbors were not very neighborly.

Yepā€¦I will be ponying up the tax down the road I am sure. I suggest making it only on states north of the Mason Dixon line and any Pacific Ocean bordering state. šŸ˜ƒ

Making a South Carolina born person moving from Davey Crockett land pay it is blasphemy

We need less government in our lives not more. Some Yankees are horribleā€¦. but not all. I would not want to lose the good ones on account of some ā€œterms in the punch bowlā€. Hopefully even the jerks will come to learn if they want the same life they ran from up north, they should not leave to begin with.
