Here’s a link to the old / other site where we listed speed traps. Got others to add?

I would say McBee is no longer a speed trap. They had a major scandal a while back letting people off the hook for drug/DUI charges in exchange for surrendering their cars to the town, who auctioned them off. The chief resigned and got a little jail time and a judge was also involved. I go there quite a bit either passing through to/from the beach or going to McCleod Farm. I can't remember the last time I saw a cop there. I imagine they pay the county to patrol it. That's what my town does.

I didn't take the time to go through the old thread, but Branchville SC is awful. Tiny little place always has a cop running radar nailing people at one end of town or the other.

Texas found a unique fix for speed traps. They didn't want to tell officers that they couldn't write tickets for speeding. So they passed a law saying the city could keep fines up to 5% of the town budget, but the rest of any fines went to the general state treasury. Did them no good to write tickets after the first 40 or 50 or so. The State Comptroller was instructed to audit the ten most notorious speed traps to make sure they complied.

Agree. But people still think it is and slow down.

I remember that thread

Lake City SC is still not a speed trap town, and has not been in the last 20 plus years I have traveled through, which is quite often

When I went through Society Hill last week, there was a police car at the same ole spot after you take the left to start to Cheraw, hidden down a little road on the right, but I was going the speed limit, but Society Hill is still a speed trap town!

Is Turbeville still a trap? It's been a long time ago, but my memory of how it went down with my ticket is long too.

I lived at Bonneau Beach for a while. Had a roommate briefly that worked with me. One day he was driving us home from work. Turned off US 52 onto the beach road and the police got after us. Roomie decided to outrun him. Only problem was we were in a twenty year old Dodge Dart with a six cylinder AND the Bonneau Beach road dead ended at the lake. The policeman got such a kick out of it, he let us go

As someone mentioned above, Springfield is the worst I've seen but Olar is also bad. I don't get why so many people were mentioning Ridgeland I95 in the old thread.. I live here and it's 70 the entire way on 95. I could understand if they were talking about hwy 17 or 278
