After their improbable tournament run as a #15 seed, they are gutted. Losing their head coach, though he’s going back to his alma mater, so that doesn’t sting quite so bad. But their top 3 players are now entering the portal.

It’s the new college sports. Get used to it.

I don’t like it, but I understand. TV $$$ changed everything and the kids should have the same opportunities as coaches.

That doesn't make it any less devastating for that fan base.

Last week a parade. This week gutted.

Reminds me of professional athletes who leave a team after winning a championship. Their value peaks, and they take advantage of free agency.

Yep. Not really a huge development with how college sports is now. For most of these mid-majors, though, especially the very small mid-majors like St. Pete's, their fans are loyal, even though they know they'll rarely every play anything other than pride. So to have your team take the NCAAT by storm and then just walk out on you is a pretty tough pill to swallow for that fan base. But, yes, fans will have to adapt a pro sports mentality for college sports. Can't become attached or loyal to any player.

St. Peter’s will be fine. They’ll definitely trade sustained success for a good run. I don’t think anyone up there thought this was the beginning of being a powerhouse. It’s just not one of those schools that leans on athletics, but definitely appreciates it when they happen to achieve.

Of course not. Doesn't make it sting any less as a fan. Mid-major fans are more dedicated than your P5 fans.

Yea, I was just saying they aren’t one of those types of schools (or mid-majors). They average a little over 500 fans at home games. This was a fun ride. They’ll look forward to another trip to the tourney in a decade or so.

Tournament darling, Edert, is heading to Bryant. Seems to be a lateral move, at best.

Banks is heading to St. Bonaventure. Not much more than a lateral move.
