Still holds up superbly. IMO the best performance in this film was by Robert Duvall.

He also had a small, but well played role, in Bullitt. He played a taxi cab driver.Robert Duvall is a very underrated actor. One of my favorites.
AMC.Thanks to my FIL, I consider the godfather movies to be Thanksgiving movies. When I would first go to the in laws house for Thanksgiving, my FIL would have the godfather on the TV until football started. I don't recall the chanel, but maybe AMC ot TMC or someone used to show them every year. I can't watch these movies without thinking of Thanksgiving at the in laws.
I am weird that way.More than the Spirit? Really?
I wouldn’t call him underrated. By consensus, his Oscar is richly deserved. And a lot of people saw Lonesome Dove.Robert Duvall is a very underrated actor. One of my favorites.
"The horror!"Marlon Brando. Period.
I never said obscure, but he never got the attention that al Pacino or Robert Deniro, for example. Maybe he never sought out the huge roles, I don’t know.I wouldn’t call him underrated. By consensus, his Oscar is richly deserved. And a lot of people saw Lonesome Dove.
Robert Duval received 7 Oscar nominations and won Best Actor for Tender Mercies. He had iconic roles in The Godfather Trilogy, Apocalypse Now (I love the smell of napalm in the morning)and Mash (Major Frank Burns). He might not be Brando or Pacino, but he has had a very long and very successful career.I never said obscure, but he never got the attention that al Pacino or Robert Deniro, for example. Absolutely one of the greats. He passed away at age 42 in 1978 from lung cancer.John Cazale appeared in five films during his career: The Godfather, The Conversation, The Godfather Part II, Dog Day Afternoon, and The Deer Hunter. The man could act.
If anyone has not seen Robert Duvall in the movie - "The Apostle", also starring Billy Bob Thorton, it is another stellar performance by Duvall and others about a former televangelist wanted for murder starting his life on the run and rebuilding a new congregation and church in the bayous of Louisiana.Robert Duval received 7 Oscar nominations and won Best Actor for Tender Mercies. Do yourself a favor. Watch GF I and II and marvel at the movie making, especially II. Remember these movies were made in the 70's. Then watch Goodfellows and consider how movie making changed with a faster paced script, a complementary soundtrack, and a change in character development (from extended scenes to narration). Both genres are entertaining, and the movies are classics.I’ve never seen any of the Godfather movies. And I know I’ll love them when I do but as of now, I just haven’t taken the time to do so.
I think I will actually have the house to myself in June for a few days. Maybe I’ll try to watch them then. They’re just so damn long and I can’t really sit still that long (unless I’m watching a game).Do yourself a favor. Watch GF I and II and marvel at the movie making, especially II. Yeah, totally. I have a thing for movies from the early seventies, like Chinatown. You also got films like Five Easy Pieces and Fat City, classics.Do yourself a favor. Then split them in two. For The Godfather, pause when the film moves to Sicily. For The Godfather Part II, pause when DeNiro says, “Michael, your father loves you very much.”I think I will actually have the house to myself in June for a few days. "If I say it is safe to surf this beach, then IT IS SAFE TO SURF THIS BEACH!""I love the smell of napalm in the morning."
Sollozzo : What guarantees could I give you, Mike? I'm the hunted one. I've missed my chance. You think too much of me, kid. I am not that clever. All I want is a truce.
Sollozzo: "They hit him with 5 shots and he's still alive!" "Get the veal. it's the best in the city."Sollozzo: Don Corleone, I need a man who has powerful friends. I need a million dollars in cash. I need, Don Corleone, those politicians you carry in your pocket, like so many nickels and dimes.
LOL. my best friend in HighSchool's family had one, only in black. I think it was a V8.My favorite AMC
This was a nice spoof
You haven’t seen “The whole thing” of which movie?Probably my biggest cultural blindspot (along with The Wire) - never seen the whole thing (though did see GF 3 when it came out).
