As for Jaws, John Williams was clearly the king of recognizable music scores for Hollywood. But Jaws was probably the most recognizable. These is so blatantly obvious
Somewhere Over The Rainbow - Wizard of Oz
Help - Help. (Beatles)
Hard Days Night - Hard Days Night
Purple Rain - Purple Rain
I've Had The Time of My Life - Dirty Dancing
Stayin Alive - Saturday Night Fever
Theme from Jaws
I 100% agree, especially regarding Goodfellas - wonderful soundtrack. Forrest Gump is a great one for the same reason. The songs speak both culturally and historically.Philadelphia is a good one
Forest Gump, especially the Free Bird scene.
Goodfellas, another good one is the transition from youth to men with the Tony Bennett song Rags to Riches!
Solid! Tarantino gets it with the music and comes up with some really nice not so popular entries!Boogie Nights ~ Sister Christian
Reservoir Dogs - Stuck in the Middle With You
The Color of Money - Werewolves of London
Pretty Woman - Roy Orbison - Pretty Woman
9 To 5 - Dolly Parton - 9 To 5
I Got You Babe - Sonny and Cher - Groundhog Day
That’s a winner! The Big Chill immediately came to mind. A lot of the youngsters have probably never heard of it....

I tried to set the example with my 3 songs in the original post but things did obviously stray from the original post question. I probably should have left out the word Soundtrack and went with Movie Song.So what I'm seeing in the majority of the responses is that entire soundtracks were "the key part" of their movies. I think maybe the OP should've restated the challenge to ask for songs that defined the theme of a movie. Though "Gimme Shelter" is featured in such a ridiculous number of TV and film soundtracks it should be ignored on principle.![]()
I'd go with Star Wars.As for Jaws, John Williams was clearly the king of recognizable music scores for Hollywood. But Jaws was probably the most recognizable.
