Mine at the house just bit the dust. Have no idea what to replace it with. Asking for recommendations from y'all.

I just had to replace my entire plant. Shifting ground collapsed the sides of the concrete tank. Luckily the new system came with a new aerator and id just had the old one rebuilt last year. Doesn’t help you any but I’ve got a $4400 spare. Yes they are required, if air isn’t circulating in the tank it will just stop up and require pumping on a regular basis. Lees Precast in Aberdeen Ms builds the tanks, they have pumps and service them. You can also get one from Amazon.

If there’s a chance of selling the house, you may have the MSDH getting involved. If that’s the case, you’ll want to make sure you have the correct brand and size of aerator that is NSF certified for your specific treatment plant.

Why would a person need an air compressor at his house? What is it used for?

A lot of home septic systems require a sewage treatment plant rather than just a septic tank and field line. It depends on the soil’s ability to absorb moisture. The treatment plants are a three chambered concrete septic tank that uses air and chlorine tablets to circulate and purify waste in the chambers and clear water comes out the end. It can either run out on top of the ground or it can be used in an irrigation system to water your lawn. A small constant duty air compressor is part of the system.
