I've been researching minor league teams of yesteryear. Primarily those found here in the Caroilna's & around the South.
Came across the name mentioned in this title.
"LIZZY" as she was nicknamed was the first & possibly only female (on record of that era) to play major league baseball. (1922). An exhibition game but, professional baseball nonetheless. Played in both, American & National Leagues.
Lizzy was considered an excellent fielder, played 1st base. Her batting average hovered around 300.
Began playing baseball w/ an exhibition team known as Ed Carr's Traveling All Stars.
Lizzy gained the nickname, "The Queen of Baseball.
It's intriguing to me to read about the lesser known minor league teams from back in the day. Back when baseball was in its (to me) infancy & purist form. Purist meaning, for the love of the game. Also find it interesting how many small towns had pro teams, Anderson, SC had one known as the Electricians. You may recognize the name, Billy Lavell?
