new football stadium scoreboards......

Virginia legislators are voting on a $3,000,000,000 new doomed stadium for the Washington Redskins (or whatever they are called)

Wow. I wonder how many Michigan students will graduate with over $100,000 in student loan debt this year. Hopefully, they enjoy their time watching the Wolverines from the student section because it's going to be a while before many of them will be able to afford to go to Michigan football games after they graduate.

If they feel ill-used, they should matriculate elsewhere. I'm being serious, not snarky. Project is reported to be privately funded, by the way.

I realize that there's been some inflation since the Cowboys stadium was built (in 2009) - but $40million is what their four giant scoreboards cost (2 of them being the 60 yard wide ones that stretch from one 20 yard line to the other).

What the hell is Michigan putting in? There's some inflation, but technology is also cheaper.

They added on the 8k option with surround sound. Plus the extended warranty and geek squad install. ;)

Definitely. $100k is child's play these days, especially if out of state ($52k a year in tuition at Michigan - $34k a year at USC for comparison's sake).

That said, if you're going to spend that kind of money might as well spend it at a school like Michigan that consistently ranks 1, 2 or 3 in best public universities in the country.

The project includes the scoreboards, advanced sound hardware that will make everything that is heard from the PA system seem close to you, and new equipment in a media facility, a hub that is housed in Crisler Arena. It's significantly more involved than just the scoreboards and they have already raised the money for all of it.

To the extent they ever fill ill-used, it probably won't be until they start paying back those loans, long after the matriculation window has closed.

You are right. And that is a terrible, terrible fact. There are very few kids with only an undergrad degree who will ever pay that off using an income-based repayment schedule that seems to be the norm now.

Yes. People should shop for education, as they do for anything else. Alternatively, seek employment in places where educational opportunities are afforded. It is through the latter avenue that I received my degree debt-free. Traditional residential colleges are scandalously expensive. Thankfully, no student was ill-used in the procurement of the scoreboards.
