Are they replacing both scoreboards? I thought they would make structural modifications first. How much bigger?I was surprised to see this morning work on replacing the south video board happening on a Sunday morning. I was in the area yesterday morning and there wasn't any work happening.
Sunday is usually overtime pay so of course they'd work Sunday and not Saturday. When you’re spending $700 MM, you use every day you can find.
Saturday is OT as well.Sunday is usually overtime pay so of course they'd work Sunday and not Saturday.

There's some info here in the FAQ such as:
Q: "What are the new revenue streams to help pay for the renovations?"
A: "Intercollegiate Athletics has recently signed substantial partnership agreements with Playfly, Elevate and Oak View Group. These agreements represent a nearly 43% increase in revenues in the same category compared to fiscal year 2024. The projected value of these three agreements is more than $1.1 billion dollars over the life of these agreements. The Playfly agreement is one of the largest multimedia rights agreement in college sports history, while the Elevate deal is the largest in college sports history. These new revenue streams were built into the proforma presented to the Board of Trustees in preparation for the June vote on the renovation."
.
They are putting in a "super ribbon" on the south end. The new ribbon will be almost the full width of the south upper deck along the very top edge. I think the existing video board will remain but they are upgrading the LEDs on it.Are they replacing both scoreboards? I thought they would make structural modifications first. How much bigger?
Or not both days, but yes.So your surprise is they worked on Sunday and not Saturday?
Not currently. I drive past the area and saw the cranes. I was surprised to see that they were taking the video screen down. And apparently work across the top of the entire south end zone is part of this new video board being installed. Are they replacing both scoreboards? I thought they would make structural modifications first. How much bigger?
The video board was entirely removed. It was down to framing behind it. I'm not sure what the ribbon is but that is part of the work underway. They are putting in a "super ribbon" on the south end. Ro is gonna love that! It’s nice that they have a brats stand to leave your kids during the game.
Don't leave those little SOBs near the scones and lattes. It’s nice that they have a brats stand to leave your kids during the game.
And with that, the best they could do was a $45mm (undiscounted) surplus over 30 years. Hope this turns out better than the prepayment of retiree benefits.![]()

That's a bit disappointing. I would expect a bigger video board. IMO one of the things that hurts is that the sides of the existing boards are used for ads. They are putting in a "super ribbon" on the south end. The new ribbon will be almost the full width of the south upper deck along the very top edge. I think the existing video board will remain but they are upgrading the LEDs on it.
What will the expanded ribbons be used for?
Bob will yell at them first.Ro is gonna love that!
Apparently in this modern society fans need to be told when to cheer and make noise. And to also keep folks engaged during the endless TV timeouts that I'm guessing are going to be much longer with the new TV deal. My memory of attending games before they were all on TV is fading now, but from what I can remember of those days I miss them. An actual flow to the game instead of watching everyone stand around waiting for the TV timeout to end. That's a bit disappointing. I would expect a bigger video board. IMO one of the things that hurts is that the sides of the existing boards are used for ads.
What will the expanded ribbons be used for?
More adverti$ing I would pre$ume. That's a bit disappointing. I would expect a bigger video board. IMO one of the things that hurts is that the sides of the existing boards are used for ads.
What will the expanded ribbons be used for?
Let's hope they use the additional board space to give scores of other games, and not just more "Welcome to Beaver Stadium".
It will likely be the exact same content that appears on the existing smaller ribbon, only this one will be taller. That's a bit disappointing. I would expect a bigger video board. IMO one of the things that hurts is that the sides of the existing boards are used for ads.
What will the expanded ribbons be used for?
Someone else posted the rendering above. They may have taken it down to clear space for the new supports needed for the ribbon board, or to update the screen more easily. But it appears to be temporary and will be put back in place at some point. The video board was entirely removed. It was down to framing behind it. I'm not sure what the ribbon is but that is part of the work underway.
So much to unpack with this one. Every sentence here generates more questions than answered.![]()

Playfly Sports CEO Mike Schreiber said that to “help Penn State unlock new revenue streams and boost fan enthusiasm,” the company intends to tap into what he calls one of the school's "most valuable assets" – its 750,000 living alumni nationwide, according to John George of the PHILADELPHIA BUSINESS JOURNAL. Exec Dir of Revenue at Penn State Enterprises at Playfly Rich Klein said that he has been “spending the past several months assembling a team of 11 Playfly staff" who are now embedded at Penn State who will “target a corporate and fan base through dedicated sales channels” in cities surrounding Penn State. Playfly plans to kick off its Penn State partnership this Saturday at the Blue and White Opening Gala, a “business-focused event” at Penn State's main campus in State College. George noted “many Philadelphia-area sponsors and potential partners” have been invited to Saturday’s event. Playfly is also planning to provide “significant enhancements to the video boards for advertising inside Beaver Stadium,” some of which will be in place as soon as this football season. Among the projects being explored for new marketing opportunities via future renovations are a “new scoreboard for the south side of the stadium, and signage opportunities and public meeting spaces outside the stadium.” Playfly is also working on “transforming the traditional Penn State White Out game." The company's plan for Penn State also includes introducing “new media and technology offerings” such as a podcast network, the “formation of membership-based services for fans, and activating game-day marketing opportunities” (PHILADELPHIA BUSINESS JOURNAL, 4/8).So much to unpack with this one. 1. "Intercollegiate Athletics has recently signed substantial partnership agreements with Playfly, Elevate and Oak View Group."
Why didn't give a brief description of what they do?
2. "These agreements represent a nearly 43% increase in revenues in the same category compared to fiscal year 2024."
How much of the increase in percentage of additional revenue is the direct result of the new Media contracts setup by the Big Ten Conference? Why did you use 2024 revenue as your basis for comparison? Were both operations (current methods vs new third parties) using the new BIG Media Contract projected payouts in the comparison over the same length of time? Show me the spreadsheet with all assumptions that prove this what you presented.
I noticed that nothing about the 43% represents profit, and was wondering why not? Isn't really profits we'll need to pay down the loan?
3. "The projected value of these three agreements is more than $1.1 billion dollars over the life of these agreements."
Sounds like a lot. What is the life of these contracts? I see you went from "increase in percent of revenues" to using "TOTAL dollars of revenue". Did you do this to intentionally mislead the reader into believing the revenues increased by $1.1B? Wouldn't it have been better to just state the increase? Why didn't you mention anything about increase in profits?
4. "The Playfly agreement is one of the largest multimedia rights agreement in college sports history, while the Elevate deal is the largest in college sports history."
Did you really believe this would make anyone feel better? Are any PSU Empoyees, Trustees, Suppliers, Contractors, Sub-Contractors, etc associated with either of these companies you mentioned? In other words, who that is associated Penn State in any way will benefit from this new contract?
Were both operations (current vs new) using the new BIG Media Contract projected payouts in the comparison over the exact same time frame? When can we see the spreadsheet, with all assumptions and details, that you used to arrive at the 43% and $1.1B projections?
5. "These new revenue streams were built into the proforma presented to the Board of Trustees in preparation for the June vote on the renovation."
Why weren't the details of the "proforma" provided to the full BOT prior to the presentation? Would you have voted to approve $700 Million without being able to see any details?
Every FAQ is total obfuscation and in some cases worse. The second FAQ is asking if the stadium capacity will change and they totally avoid the answer by stating "Penn State takes great pride in having one of the largest stadium capacities in the world, which we plan to continue." instead of just answering the simple question. smh
This answered what, sort of, these guys do. Why do they need a $700M renovation instead of the almost laughably high projection of $200M needed for backlog maintenance, winterization, and bathroom updates? Beaver Stadium, the 106,572-seat home of Penn State football, is set to undergo dramatic renovations in coming years. With a planned rebuild of the stadium’s west stands on tap, up for board of trustees approval on May 21, many other changes are coming with it.
Tuesday afternoon, another one of those elements has been revealed.
According to a report from Sports Business Journel, Penn State athletics intends to enter into an agreement with Elevate for its future premium ticketing sales. The arrangement is set to begin following the 2024 season, focusing primarily on “supporting ticketing revenue opportunities, including premium hospitality.”
From the report:
“Elevate has won the right to support ticketing-based revenue opportunities at Penn State’s Beaver Stadium, according to people familiar with the matter… Elevate is active in the college world, working with all the Power 5 conferences, including the ACC in a many-faceted arrangement that sees Elevate consult on ticketing pricing, revenue optimization, experiential packaging strategy, and other aspects of the ACC fan’ experience. Last year, Elevate signed more than two dozen college clients, bolstering a roster that includes Alabama, Notre Dame, USC, Stanford and Florida.”
What is Elevate?
In practical terms, Penn State athletics is handing over the reins of its premium football experience services to leaders in the field. The arrangement provides Penn State with guaranteed revenue from its premium sales, while Element provides a premium experience to its clientele. Element will also handle the sales of Beaver Stadium’s planned loge boxes and suites.
The report does not detail when the arrangement will begin, or whether the agreement will apply to the entirety of Beaver Stadium, or focus primarily on the new opportunities created by the planned west stands renovation.

Among many proposed changes to Beaver Stadium, the hurdle toward final approval for the massive, $700 million project is set for later this month.
“The primary scope of the Beaver Stadium renovation is on the stadium’s West Side,” the Penn State project description says. “This approach would replace the current West Side of the stadium and provide improved access for broadcasting, greatly improved circulation, new restrooms, upgraded concession offerings, and much-needed premium seating.
“Included with the West Side replacement are much-needed miscellaneous improvements of the North, East, and South, as listed below. These combined projects will greatly enhance the fan experience and safety and provide significant incremental revenue to fund these improvements.”

Looking at the renderings there will likely be escalator problems when both are going up or down at the beginning and end of games. They both empty immediately next to one another, (instead of 1 coming up to the right and 1 to the left), which will create backlogs and issues as people pile up and don’t move away quickly enough. An escalator at Gate E! That is an issue that we won’t have as we don’t wait until the last minute to go into the stadium.Looking at the renderings there will likely be escalator problems when both are going up or down at the beginning and end of games. It won’t be just a last minute issue. It’ll be bad after games. That is an issue that we won’t have as we don’t wait until the last minute to go into the stadium.
