All the Outbacks in my area ended up closed by the second round of lockdown orders during the pandemic. I assume they're on hard times these days and can no longer afford to sponsor things like bowl games.

Yeah, I'm thinking a lot of restaurants will not survive the inflationary times ahead. In some parts of the country, I think there's still a lot of pent-up desire to get out and eat, but once that novelty wears off, that type of discretionary spending will be one of the first things people cut from their budgets. On a recent golf trip, my 15 year old son and I ate dinner at a Denny's. After two entrees, two Cokes, deserts, and the tip, the total bill was almost $55. At freaking Denny's!They've had several locations to shut down. Times are changing, many of the sit down restaurant chains are facing similar issues.
Denny's and IHOP are now $$$$ restaurants. Chick-fil-a sandwich which was $2.99 not long ago is now $4.59. Can't afford to eat out and can't afford groceries (if available). Part of the plan.Yeah, I'm thinking a lot of restaurants will not survive the inflationary times ahead. To be honest I really can't remember the last time I've been to a sit down chain restaurant. We still go out about once a week, but we go to locally owned establishments.Yeah, I'm thinking a lot of restaurants will not survive the inflationary times ahead. The chains will also get hammered by the min wage. Robots are coming. To be honest I really can't remember the last time I've been to a sit down chain restaurant. We still go out about once a week, but we go to locally owned establishments.
If customers were aware of how downright nasty a lot of restaurant employees are, they would all close down. Mostly young kids get hired and look at their job just as a stepping stone to their next job. They've had several locations to shut down. I was looking for daylilies at a Spring Hill online site and they were charging $40 for one daylily. Used to buy from them. No more. I need about 20 daylilies and a charge of around $150 would be reasonable to me. Not $800.Yeah, I'm thinking a lot of restaurants will not survive the inflationary times ahead. Same here, largely because we don't have many chain restaurants where I live. lol. But in this instance, we were on a mini-vacation and the Denny's was within walking distance of the hotel. It was an eye-opener, for sure, and will make me think more about restaurant costs in my future trip planning. To be honest I really can't remember the last time I've been to a sit down chain restaurant. I'm no flower expert, but aren't daylilies something every daylily owner will gladly cull for free from their own beds every spring/summer? I seem to remember my mom's taking over the entire flower bed if she wasn't careful.I was looking for daylilies at a Spring Hill online site and they were charging $40 for one daylily. Well, Applebee's had the money to endorse Top Gun: Maverick. Sheesh! I met my wife at Applebee's in Lancaster 19+ years ago. We go back every few years to check if it's gotten any better. It's progressively worse. All the Outbacks in my area ended up closed by the second round of lockdown orders during the pandemic. Some good memories at Outback Bowl like Ryan Brewer's 3 TD's vs Ohio State (Ohio native not recruited by OS)
For me it was an affordable steakhouse with a decent New York Strip. You couldn't have paid me to eat a "blooming onion." I prefer a salad. So is Outback going out of business? Or just not seeing the value in the bowl?
I have to say, I don't know how that place has been open this long. There are plenty of other chains - why eat that stuff? The blooming onion loses its charm on your fifth trip to the restroom.
With Tangy Tomato Dressing?I prefer a salad.

Ate a Bloomin Onion recently. Not as big as I remembered but good. For me it was an affordable steakhouse with a decent New York Strip. You couldn't have paid me to eat a "blooming onion." I prefer a salad.
Same here. The food was fresh and tasty back then. The restaurants were fresh and clean. Today, they all smell like stale mop-bucket water. The food is awful. I used to go to the one in Easley (hwy 153/hwy 123). But the last visit two years ago was the last straw. I now frequent the Longhorn in Easley — much better food and service.I remember Outback having better food in the early 1990s.
No surprise they can’t afford to sponsor the bowl anymore. It was nice to see the consistency in the name for all those years.
Most Outback caliber restaurants are terrible.
Used to love outback 20 years ago. I have no desire to eat at outback, chili’s, Applebee’s, TGI Fridays, and pretty much all the other similar joints. Half the food is microwaved.
Texas Roadhouse is still good.
These days I barely eat out anywhere though
I agree about Texas Roadhouse. Oddly, I never used to care for it. But where we live, it's the only place where we've had consistently good service.
I also don't enjoy much about eating out anymore. As you say, none of the food at any of these places is really any good. It's all frozen, pre-packages stuff that's heated up.
I'll take that disaster if he doesn't want it.
I think Ramsay was pissed that the steak was already cut into pieces.I'll take that disaster if he doesn't want it.
My favorite place these days is Bonefish Grill. Excellent food and superb, if not expensive, drinks.I agree about Texas Roadhouse. Oddly, I never used to care for it. But where we live, it's the only place where we've had consistently good service.

The Varsity celebrates 90th anniversary – looks to the future
