I understand your intent, and support it, but holy cow this song did not age well.

As a father I have gained a whole different perspective. Europe is a cesspool I don’t want my kids giving their lives to defend.

George Washington was so right- “The great rule of conduct for us in regard to foreign nations is in extending our commercial relations, to have with them as little political connection as possible. So far as we have already formed engagements, let them be fulfilled with perfect good faith. Here let us stop. Europe has a set of primary interests which to us have none; or a very remote relation. Hence she must be engaged in frequent controversies, the causes of which are essentially foreign to our concerns. Hence, therefore, it must be unwise in us to implicate ourselves by artificial ties in the ordinary vicissitudes of her politics, or the ordinary combinations and collisions of her friendships or enmities.”

My apologies to Alexander Hamilton who wrote most of the above.

Top 10 Countries with the Highest Quality of Life - U.S. News Best Countries Report 2022

Sweden Denmark Canada Switzerland Norway Finland Germany Netherlands Australia New Zealand

The U.S. News and World Report's annual "Best Countries Report", assembled in partnership with the BAV Group and The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, uses detailed surveys to track a similar, but different set of indicators. These include affordability, safety, the job market, level of income equality, economic and political stability, and the quality of public education and health systems. Compared to the Number rankings, he two lists include many of the same countries—but because of differences in either the survey questions or the methodology, the order changes.

Europes gifts? The Soviet Union, Nazi Germany, two world wars, the Holocaust, the French, the Gulag, the glories of English cooking, the Balkans, the Spanish Civil War, colonialism, socialism, existentialism, and Swedish movies.

But , as Dr Pangloss would surely note, they did give us pizza!

PS: I also like those tins of Danish shortbread cookies you can buy at Christmas.

Debatable…(but probably good idea in 1770’s)…

That the yanks are coming....

We so easily forget how miserable so many wars were/are. I speak as a veteran of Desert Shield/Desert Storm which was one of our greatest and easiest military campaigns. We won because we had extremely competent warfare commanders from every branch of the service with a cleary defined mission objective from the Commander in Chief.

Hard agree. And then we ignored the lessons we learned from this success.
