Was the first contract only 2 years long? Why a new contract already? Anyway, I think this guy has been a positive addition to PSU from the previous 2 ADs so I am okay with this. I have observed this dude during sporting events at PSU and he seems like a down to earth kind of guy and doesn't walk around like we should be privileged that he works here like some former ADs.

Worth noting:
While I was not permitted a vote to approve or disapprove of this action, I did raise several concerns wrt the contract.

More details are supposed to be publicly posted later today.
If so, they may address some of the questions raised.

8 year contract? Seems cushy.

Our University administrators (as a whole, lot) give us so much every day, that I applaud this move though.

This puts Kraft at Top 2 or 3 depending on the information you use - behind Texas, around the same as Bama, just ahead of Tennessee and Ohio State. Pat is only two years into his gig, but he's taking on an athletics program that has not won more than two B1G Championships since the 2016-17 season (5 that year, including football). The last women's sport to win a NC was Women's Soccer in 2015. The last men's sport (that isn't wrestling) is volleyball in 2008.

I think it's within reason to ask why Kraft is due such a significant extension/pay raise after a little over two years on the job, but if he's the guy that got $35mm donated to Beaver Stadium efforts I'd say he's probably earned it.

Come on, man. I need more anger!!!

You may get it sometime in early October if/when Franklin is sitting at 5-0 or 6-0 and another plum job is available (Miami or Florida for example). First really big test for Kraft is whether or not he'll make a move on Franklin before or after the season (if I were betting I'd say Franklin gets another raise/extension before OSU, unless we lose to WVU).

I don't think you'll see CJF extended any time soon, unless the season is VERY successful. On the subject of Kraft, he knows how the game works too.

Who did get to vote and was it unanimous?

Sorry… it’s absurd. Doubled income based on a couple of recent donations? Kinda like Nellies increase. Based on doing what? Krafty is a good guy and happy for his family but I don’t understand 2 yrs into his initial 5 yr contract you double his salary. Must have had some other suitors knocking at the door.

Financially:
Aside from 2012-2013 (when there was no bowl money due to the NCAA sanctions) and other issues, and the COVID year (for obvious reasons):
The last two years have been the worst fiscal performance for PSU ICA in at least the last 15 years (that is as far back as I can easily find info). Maybe ever. And this is before any impact from the increased borrowing.
The next 3-5 years SHOULD be much better, but that is due to a lot of anticipated one-time inflows, before things turn back down.

Academically:
The last 2 years were also the worst for PSU athletics ever - as far back as I can see - for academic metrics relative to other Big Ten programs
(Keep in mind:
1- Those are lagging metrics - ie, what happens today won't fully impact those figures for several years. So "today's numbers" are impacted by what happened even 3-4-5-6 years ago
and
2 - The NCAA changed the way the numbers are calculated - so only relative numbers have any meaning at all.... and even then, I think the NCAA calculation methods make the figures "not worth much"))

On the Field:
Over the last two years (combined):
PSU Men won 2 outright Big Ten titles (both in Wrestling)
and tied for 2 Big Ten titles (one each in Lacross and Soccer)
PSU Women won 1 outright title (Field Hockey)
That is probably the worst 2 year stretch for Women in recent history (and Women's sports championships have been on a steady decline for the last 8-10 years). On the men's side, there have been some leaner years in the past.

YMMV

If CJF has winning a Natty as his goal he should take an offer from a program with a top 5-6 NIL payroll plan.

FYI, contributions can be a weird animal. First off, they are to be recognized when cash is received, not merely pledged. Typically, large contributions are paid in over 5-10 years. Another wrinkle is that cash money actually paid in is not to be recognized until the year it is expended. Only the NCAA could come up with that one.

Gone are the days when Arkansas could undertake a major cap ex project and recognize as revenue all of the pledges up front, rising to the top of the heap, even if only for one glorious year.

Ms. Excellence is a rank amateur compared to the incumbent.
It's a different world now. Pat needs to spend to stay alive. CJF needs the best facilities in the nation and all of PA chipping in on NIL. Otherwise the program will never dominate

Unless they settle with the JoeBots they will fall to the middle of the B1G. So the NIL bag is weak and they double the ADs salary for no reason probably because another school came calling. Kids won’t get that. Singleton is already wondering where the money is.
