Currently, NLC donations are what funds scholarships, among other very necessary things related to running an athletic program. They are about to raise the required fees for seats and tickets, which is prioritized by NLC contributions and points. That was before this new news about expanded scholarship numbers.
Some who discount the need for NLC donations in favor of NIL donations, may not understand how critical the NLC money is.
And, they will still want individual donations towards NIL, we hear, despite the media money and the outside firm hired to generate more opportunities for athletes to get paid by local and regional businesses. Those NIL contributions need to somehow count for NLC points, imo, or that source will be somewhat shallow. Or more shallow than it could be with NLC points being awarded.
The biggest of the big schools can fund and fill those extra scholarships. The additional 10 or so scholarships given by P4 in football means the G5 football schools become less competitive in short order. The need for these two factions with 1A football to be separate entities, with separate playoffs and champions, is looming large and needs to happen soon, imo.
