Good question, and I don't have the answer to that.

Think, though, of some of the legends who would have never been if schools pulled the plug after 8, 9 or 10 years. Obviously, most of these showed good success prior to winning a title, but just shows even for legends, it took some time.

Very true and that's why the 5-6 yr. contract causes many to pull the plug too early, especially on the football side of things.
Patience is not an easy virtue to develop! I struggle with it often.

Kevin Ollie won it in his second year at UConn - though largely with Calhoun's players. He was fired four years later and hasn't been a head coach since. So catching fire early isn't necessarily a recipe for sustained success.

Kevin Ollie at UConn before everything went haywire. Steve Fisher, also, won it as an Interim Coach before getting the top job at Michigan.

Do you think they pulled the plug too early on Muschamp? Patience would tell you to give him at least 5 more years than what he got.

Kinda feel the history of it should be broken down to two eras... pre-portal and post-portal. Not so sure the decade or more tradition holds up.
