and isn't great that one of the perennial SEC "powers" in all other sports with big money and chutzpah has to wait for little STATE to take a coach before they can get in line. That is so sweet on several levels.

I pray to God, that we receive the same respect in football and basketball. That's when we become a full power in the conference.

for a couple of reasons-

One, I think they would have gone after Cohen if we didn't get him. Not saying that they would have necessarily landed him, but I think that they would have had some serious discussions with him. He is an Alabama native, after all. The other thing is they probably figured Cohen would come to MSU if offered, but they had to wait and see if we promoted Raffo instead of waste their time. They may have also had some interest in Raffo.

Two, I think they wanted to see what the market was going to be, and whoever MSU hired was going to kind of dictate that.

They probably could have had Bobby Pierce at Troy, but I think his Univeristy of Alabama ties might have been a deal breaker there. Auburn really had to make a good hire because their last two head coaches have not done well. Both Renfroe and Slater had ties to Hal Baird, so they are also breaking away from thier past. I think they hit a home run with their hire as well. Obviously, I know Cohen played here, but we are breaking away from the past of status quo.

Also, I wouldn't be surprised if Pierce replaced Jim Wells in the very near future.

punched him in the stomach and slapped him in the face.

Or maybe that's just an MState thing...

Seems to me that ADs are fully aware of polk's meddlesome ways. If you hire Raffo, you get the troublesome little interloper for free. Seems to me, ol Ronald G may cost lil Tommy several jobs before this all over. I predict Raffo ends up as an assistant, which is, sadly, all he'll ever be qualified to be.

All things concerned, can we grow up and show Raffo some respect to a guy that lived, ate and breathed Bulldog baseball for over 20 years of his life?

Yeah, I didn't like where our program was, but for God's sake.................

hire a coach without Ncaa experience. Since Baird left there other two coaches didn't experience any winning in tournament play or have the luxary of being a D1 head coach. I think there thinking was to get someone who has shown they can win in big games, such as Msu did with the hiring of Cohen. The Auburn hire looks to be good for them, they should at least be an = to Bama and that is the most important factor to them.

that makes perfect sense. Auburn hired the proven head coach over Tommy because of Polk.

but think about it this way, you're a college and you're interviewing Tommy Raffo, and you ask him during the interview who he might go after as assistants. One of the things he says is he wants Ron Polk as a volunteer assistant.

As an adminsitrator, by doing research on Raffo, you find out that Ron Polk went on this huge tirade, including threats to bring down the AD. Would you want to take a chance on possibly bringing that in to your program, which is probably already in bad shape? I wouldn't if I was an AD.

So, yes, Polk may have hurt Raffo's chances with other jobs.

Look. Tommy doesn't have to make a public statement. He just saw two decades of hard work go down the drain and has to start over. Sure, I didn't want Tommy to get the job, but I am not going to keep dumping on him. He was a hell of a player and coached the way that Polk told him to. Give him some time to get a new job and get his feet back under him and maybe he will be ready to talk about Cohen and State. I just hope Tommy has the good sense not to take Polk along with him to his new job. He needs to get out from under his shadow and establish his own coaching style.

Cohen said it best at the MS Sports Hall of fame. He tried to be Polk when he first started coaching, but he found out real quick that didn't work. He had to coach like John Cohen.

will get the Arkansas State job. He has a similar or better resume than their last coach when they hired them, plus, I think everything that has happened will make him try that much harder to do well.

And if he brings Ron Polk along with him, and I was Ark. State's AD, it probably would be worth the risk.

Plus, there opbviously isn't a whole lot of pressure to win there because they wanted Kessinger back after going 20-35 or something like that, but Kessinger left on his own.
