The portal is worse than nil itself. Unlimited transferring is what makes the nil so bad. If you transfer as a normal student most of the time you lose scholarships etc. portal paired with nil or pay of pay rather has just made college football terrible and not worth rooting for. NIL the way it should be wouldn't be that bad pay playing for their NIL. But paying to keep or for them to come period just to leave without any contracts is idiotic. Thanks a lot SCOTUS NCAA and greedy folks for ruining a good thing. I watched less college football the past two seasons than I can remember ever doing. About to likely cancel YouTube tv with the price going up again. If it wasn't for nfl I would likely already have canceled. College basketball is boring now. NBA sucks. The money has ruined college sports

Yep. I just canceled YTTV. I found I just didn’t watch much. I can get enough football through my antenna.

The schedule needs to be updated:
  • Playoffs start the first weekend of December and finish on January 1. If we keep the bowl games, they all wrap up in December.
  • The portal opens up on January 1

It would be hard to do that because they would have very little time until the spring semester starts at many schools.

He could have floated his name out there via agents and gauged interest and stuff and still played.

Moving the schedule up a week would help. But really you should be allowed to enter the portal and still play for your existing team in playoffs if it came down to that. I doubt it's a huge secret to a lot of folks who is entering.

Some coaches cut all ties with a player once he enters the portal. I've read that Sark does. Probably more common in big time programs

Better idea…..the regular season starts February 15th, that way we have professional football almost year-round!

Fans who so choose can watch both the real thing on Fall / Winter Sundays, and then go right on in to the shítty knock-off version right after the Super Bowl.

So, one way to help keep your team intact is to make the playoffs, to discourage players entering the transfer portal? That seems sub optimal for the non-playoff teams looking to improve.

Everyone who hates the open transfer rule should send an email to Mississippi AG Lynn Fitch. She joined the anti trust lawsuit against the NCAA that challenged the transfer eligibility rule, and had to approve the consent decree that created this mess.

Maybe include for her a list of highly rated former Rebels who have transferred under this rule, and thank her for using federal antitrust laws to ruin college sports.

If you don't live in Mississippi, then maybe ping the AG of one of the other plaintiff states:

OHIO
COLORADO
ILLINOIS
MINNESOTA,
NEW YORK
NORTH CAROLINA
TENNESSEE
VIRGINIA
WEST VIRGINIA
DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA
