I had a buddy ask me about this deal today and I replied:

"I am going to tell my sons to grow up to be football coaches. The way this racket works is you get a 50% raise for exceeding expectations. You get a 30% raise for meeting expectations, you get a 10% raise for barely underperforming expectations. You get fired if you fall significantly short of expectations, but they hand you a check for $10M and you head to the beach." His response: "Good gig if you can get it"

I am glad he is staying. I believe the silent majority agrees with me. Yes, not a stellar gameday coach but he’s a good recruiter (except OLine), good representative of Penn State. He’s not a shitbag like a lot of other coaches (a la Jim Booger Harbaugh). One would feel their son is in good hands playing for him.
Yeah and Harbaugh gets more despite never winning a Big Championship or beating OSU. MSI coach who is barely above 500 and got smoked by OSU in a game that wasn’t as close as the final score right after he signs a more lucrative deal Go figure.

I believe there is something to be said for stability perhaps now more than ever as other programs grind through coaches.

Harbaugh is paid far, far less than what Franklin was earning - and, obviously, even "more less" now that Franklin was given this latest cache.
You may not remember, but Harbaugh agreed to a massive pay cut after his team's crappy performance during 2020.

Never had any doubt that James was staying.
