May be cheesy as an adult but as a high school athlete trying to figure out where to go and play in college in those areas just may sway some big recruit. I think it is a good idea. We may just get some of those players that put us at the top. I am curious if any of the other top programs in the nation do this? or is PSU on the cutting edge here?

Plus with all the NIL sh|t going on, Franklin needs any edge he can get.

Not sure what I think of this... certainly don't think it's a negative thing, but I'm also not sure it's going to accomplish what they think it will.
Other than Jahan (and only because he's front and center and has the biggest likeness on the billboard) am I really going to recognize these guys as NFL players while going 65 mph?

It just looks like an add for Penn State Football overall ... not really a showcase for PSU guys who made it to the NFL. Even the NFL logo is tiny.

Of course it’s an ad for the program. The point is for people, hopefully recruits and high school coaches, to see that PSU sends a pantload of guys to the NFL. Who they are isn’t so important.

Exactly my point. When I look at that billboard, I don't see that. NFL logo should be more predominant somewhere.
Doesn't matter ... this is a trivial argument. If James Franklin is relying on billboards for recruiting help, we have bigger problems.

This could backfire since it raises the question, "If we have so many NFL 2022 draft picks, why was our record 11 - 11 over the last two years? Are our coaches incompetent?"
Or better yet, PSU could be accused once again of having a football culture with too much emphasis on football. Before you know it James Franklin will be accused of running this town.  🤷‍♂️ (BTW, this is sarcasm in case it doesn't come across that way).

"Hey Joe Fivestar. Why did you choose Penn State?"
"Well, Bob, it was that billboard on I-376 at exit 78 in Pittsburgh." 🙄

This is a feel good thing for the fans and nothing more. The top recruits know the pluses and minuses of every program. They know how many players from Penn State, OSU, or Michigan, were drafted. If Pitt did it this Board would be awash with derision.

Well, when you don't have conference championships or playoff appearances to tout, you either give Franklin another bonus or do something like this. I guess this is fine all things considered.

When I think of psu football, I think of someone like Tamba Hali graduating. Given what psu has said about the program, I'm surprised this is the message they are choosing to highlight.

Not too sure how many prospects will be driving by that particular billboard.

I'm involved with marketing. We always ask ourselves who is the target audience. So, the target audience for these billboards are 14/15 year old drivers. Got it.

To quote the great John Wanamaker, "Half the money I spend on advertising is wasted; the trouble is I don't know which half.”

Methinks we know which half in this instance....

A first thought, well 14/15 year olds do ride in cars. However, I am thinking back in my day we used to just gaze out the window at schtuff, kids today have their face buried in their phones. So now I am thinking this is a waste of marketing dollars and cheesy. Who the hell reads billboards these days anyways? Another stupid waste of money. Should use that money on IG or TikToks.
