Penn State football: What does revised 2022 schedule mean for Nittany Lions?

History says they'll lose the week after after a tough loss so the trip to Indiana after the OSU game will be worth watching. Minnesota after Michigan and God forbid Central Michigan after Auburn.

That new schedule doesn't look right.

For what its worth, I prefer the new schedule.

Northwestern and Illinois are both lousy programs right now, but I've seen more than enough of Illinois lately (and I like Fitzgerald a lot more than Beliema).
Having a decent game in what would be the likely spot for Homecoming (probably Minnesota, but maybe Northwestern) is also good, I think
And finishing with Michigan State is probably about the best one can hope for - since we know that finishing with either Ohio State or Michigan is off the table.

(Edited: not referring to 2022 but future (and past) schedules.)

It is interesting how the "computer generated schedule" has such a propensity to schedule OSU and Michigan back to back.

Definitely. This helped us out by spreading out some of the meat grinder in the first 6 games that we had previously.

Is there any word on why the schedule was revised? Anyone?

It's due to ongoing reactions to the 2020 schedule and how that disrupted how things were planned out. Some teams are swapping home/away games because it got messed up in 2020.

More specific to PSU, we missed Northwestern in 2020 (we were pre-COVID supposed to play them) but picked up Illinois as our "extra" 9th game that year. So, us losing Illinois to get NW in 2020 seem to be a "make up" for that.

Thank you. When the news broke yesterday I thought it might have been specific to PSU, but after the announcement today of the entire Conference schedule changing, it makes sense.
