We've had variations on this discussion on the previous board platform. I thought this effort at it was pretty good. Any changes you'd make at any of the weight classes?

Pretty good article/list. I could quibble a few picks, but, mostly . . . I gotta say that reading this sort of retrospective just brings a big smile. We’re all lucky to be PSU Wrestling fans!

I enjoyed the read as well. My only “critique” is that Mark and Cenzo should get some kind of asterisk next to their national titles. It’s “unfair” that they get compared to others on the basis of national titles, but they didn’t have the same opportunity as others. Maybe it should be communicated as a percentage? Mark went 1 for 3 (did he lose in the finals to Zahid twice?) and Cenzo went 2 for 3 (also with a 2nd). I can accept, though, that life ain’t fair, and the comparison is the comparison.

For the sake of argument, let's say they wrestled 2020 and Both Cenzo and Mark won another title. How would you put them up against the two guys who are on the list? There is no right or wrong answer here.

For me, even with Cenzo getting three titles I think I'd have Taylor edging him out by a fraction of an amount. I'd have Mark and Carter at a dead tie.

Really enjoyed this post, Tom. Great work assembling this...

IMHO pin this so that we can read it over and over again.
...And potentially update this if someone challenges to be the PSU new GOAT at any of the weight classes.

Thx again, Tom (y)(y)🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Not that it is a big deal but how would Prescott been up at 125? Could he beat Jason Kelber or Terry Brands who won 126 in his National Championship seasons? That is long before me being a PSU wrestling fan but I wonder. That 118 isn't a weight that I think you can project forward since there was a 126 as well.

Jeff Prescott wrestled for PSU from 1989 - 1992. At NCAAs, he finished 5th as a soph, 1st as a junior, and 1st as a senior, all @ 118. During his time at PSU, he faced Terry Brands 3 times, as follows:

12/29/1989: @126, L, 9-3
1/13/1990: @126, DDQ
2/1/1992: @126, L, 13-1

Prescott defeated Chad Zaputil of Iowa to finish 1st in '91 and in '92. Iowa's starters in those years were Zaputil @ 118, Terry Brands @ 126, Tom Brands @ 134, ...

Understood, I was just wondering about him at 125 (selected in the article vs 118 actual weight). I know his senior year he wrestled most of the season at 126 and was 4-1 against the guys who were AA's at 126 that year, but the one loss was Brands big brothering him.

I just feel like the other different weights (126, 134, 142, 150, 158, 167, 177, 190, & 275) all have closer "modern" equivalents unlike 118. Could Prescott be a NCAA Champ during those years at 126 to select him as PSU's 125 rep in this exercise.
