To prepare for draft.

This game is shaping up to be the "Who Wants to Play? Bowl"

I was really hoping the culture that Beamer is trying to build would translate into greater commitment from the players, but I guess that ship has sailed for college football.

Anyone going to see our JV v. ND JV. College football officially sucks.

I'm afraid I'm gonna have to tell my family that this will be my last bowl game. Will be my 8th one & bowl trips used to be soooooooooooooo much fun. Now, the selfishness of "players" & how many in our society applaud their selfishness............well, bowl season, which used to be the best time of year for college football enthusiasts, is now pretty much ruined. Never thought Pickens would be a quitter. Hate that a lot. Seems out of character for him. Some very bad person has gotten in his ear & had too much influence. All these quitters are letting down their teammates, coaches, university, & supporters of all kinds (alumni, fans, etc.).

At what point do they make bowl games exhibition where the outcome has no impact on your final ranking? Honestly? If the team is made up of players and players don't want to play in the game, then what's the point?

Not just that, but the financial commitment to go to a bowl game for us who support these teams isn't anything to scoff at. Taking my family for 5 nights. Thousands will be spent. The actual team that represents my alma mater has decided not to go. I feel like the players who are quitting, who were given a free education by my alma mater--an education I had to pay for--are spitting in my face. I hope all of them fail in their NFL pursuits. Since they're being selfish & not fulfilling their end of the bargain, I wish them nothing but the worst.

Right?

People make it sound like you, as a fan, have some sort of moral obligation to support the team. But why, when not even the players on the team support the team? Yeah, it's just a handful of players, but when it's your top players, it makes a difference.

Don't think of the bowls as the last game of this season, but actually the first game of next season. Almost all the guys on the field will be playing next season, so it's a good time to get them some real experience playing together.

Tickets? I might not even watch this game on television. I DO care whether we win or lose, but this is disheartening. I've just got the old-fashioned idea that the teams that go to the bowls ought to be the teams that qualified for the bowls, minus the injured, disciplined, or the academically incompetent.

yeah...who is left?
I initially was going to the bowl....then re-considered.
I hate the portal, and knew it would ruin CFB....but One thing I never thought about is how it can (and is) ruining bowl season. Bowl season has already taken a hit in the last decade with guys sitting out, etc. but this portal deal and NIL combined.....disastrous. Top that with the expanded playoff....bowls may be no more in 5-6 years as absurd as that sounds. These big name sponsors won't foot the millions for 12,430 attendance numbers.

I'm an assshole. I bought 4 bowl tickets. I booked 5 nights in Jacksonville. I promised to take my family to a few fun places & bought 'em all some new Carolina gear. I'm an assshole.

No, you're just a patsy. That's not as bad.
Unless the landscape of college football changes, I'm gonna take it all in knowing this is my final bowl game..........where numerous walkons played meaninful snaps in a top 20 matchup vs. Notre Dame because of selfish pricks that had zero loyalty to Carolina.

This is like the first preseason game of the season in the NFL…..you don’t see the starters….but you ask yourself ”wonder who is going to make the roster for the upcoming team”

It really is. This season is over if you aren't in the playoffs. Bowls are really a chance to get a jump start on next season - with more practice with the guys who will be playing next season (especially at the positions where a team loses an NFL-caliber player). That is one reason why bowls are meaningless, but not pointless.

If I were you or any other Gamecock fan going to the bowl, I would show up loud and let Rattler and Wells know how much they are appreciated and how badly we want them back next year.

I think consumer value is diminishing, along with competitive relevance. How can they not be?

that's the way they used to be back in the day (pre 1967)
