I got to meet doc at Doubleday Farm in Perry County maybe 20 years ago. Very nice man. He became a drug counselor post baseball. Some of the pros they brought in were A$$holes (tommy john for one), but Dock was kind to everyone.
A buddy of mine would get a call when they needed people to fill out 2 teams and I would also fill spots. A lot of Phillies guys like Ricky Jordan, mickey morandini, luzinski, etc were there over the years. Tommy John came in right after a MLB old timers game over all star game I think. He wore the all star game jersey. He didn't really talk to anyone before, during or afterwards. I lined a single off of him and the next time up he made sure to show me up and strike me out with nasty stuff. Nice guys were invited back almost every year. He never came back.
